lifting question

i use to go to a gym and lift but i had to save more money so i got a gym set. but i got a standard gym set. i wanted to know how much do you think the standard bar can hold? i have about 170lb on it now. i normally lift 180-205lb. i dont know if it can handle that.

Shouldn't be a problem for the bar. I would say up to 250 lbs wouldn't really be a problem.

Hm, if its an olympic bar, it should easily put up 350+ no problem.

Depends on the bar really...there are olympic bars that are made for up to 2000 pounds but then theres others that aren't save once you go over 300.

If by standard bar you mean 25 lb bar. I would say a fair bit.
I remember back in the day seeing my dad bench 250 off one of those sears bars. Worked bent a little, nice little actually.
But really though if you have room for a 45lb bar i would advise getting one b/c i doubt you would be able to break it off.

A 25lb bar will atleast hold 300, atleast ones connected on a smith machine..

The one i had was just a plain bar. Wasnt much usefull for deadlifts b/c it was kinda weak, not that doing deadlifts is so great at home.

ok i think i need to get another bar. my bar i just noticed starts to bend now with 170lb. i really want to move up it is to easy. any place you would recommend to buy an olympic bar?

that one is 47 pounds (in money) so try doubling that for a price in US/Canadian $$

but its a whole set and 300 $$ so might not be worth it. But the bar looks good.
Other than that im not sure where you can buy one. Try searhing local stores websites, or calling them to see if they got any in stock.

If you cant hold as much weight why not add chains (westside style) to challenge your miscles. Or add resistance tubing, or both.
