At UFC 77 on Oct. 20, Rich Franklin will have the opportunity to avenge the most devastating loss of his career. It was one year ago that Anderson Silva brutalized Franklin with devastating knees from the clinch, and took Franklin's middleweight title in the first round. In order to win back his title, Franklin will have to not only defeat Silva but conquer the memory of that first fight. UFC history suggests that is easier said than done.

There have been 53 rematches in UFC history. Setting aside draws and no contests, the fighters who won the previous bout were 33-17 in the rematch, winning two-thirds of those fights.

Nice research.

I think for Franklin to take Anderson Silva he's gonna need to keep the distance and wait for an opprotunity.(spell check). That or bone up on his skills from the clinch or try to employ some ground and pound.

Wow that was kind of generic of me!

I think the "spider" would have lost to lutter if not for that triangle. His ground game didnt seem solid at all. I have all my money on Franklin.

haha silva's ground game seemed average, but lutter's looked worse. Franklin will have to bring his A game, and fight incredibly smart with a good game plan, but i got him picked to win, and my bankroll is on him

I put all my money on Franklin too! I think hes prob worked his butt off for this. I dont see it as being as one sided but i do see it going to the ground and Rich using his big frame to keep him there!

Silva had two bad knees. Why do people doubt his ground game so much? he beat Lutter on the ground and wasn't Marquardt supposed to submit him? well instead of that happening Silva beat him on the ground too. Apparently black belts in BJJ under Nog mean you have no ground game.

Nice stat on the rematches...

As for the fihgt itself, Franklin BETTER have a good gameplan, because I don't see Silva having a disadvantage in any aspect of this match-up

And that might be why you have a 5-4 picks record. Silva is gonna dominate Rich.

A bunch of you if honest are gonna lose all your money. AS isn't unbeatable at that weight, but I don't see Rich doin it. Bad matchup for Rich. Same as I said b4 the first one. Same as I said to all the naysayers in the two defenses he's had. I see no change in champ. Rich was always overrated, lol -- had to throw that in, hahaha
