I have always been a huge fan of former undisputed heavweight champ Lennox Lewis. It pains me that I never got to see him in an MMA ring. I know that alot of people wanted to see Mike Tyson fight in MMA, but I would have rather seen Lennox fight anyday. He's now 42 years old, and retired from boxing. I have no real dreams that he could come back and fight, but it's always fun to talk about. How would a real, heavyweight boxer do in an MMA ring against the top talent?
There are two guys that I'd like to see Lennox face: Randy Couture and Fedor Emelianenko. I think he'd have a shot against either guy (if he got some takedown defense, that is). Neither guy would want to slug with him, but both could be KO'd if they try to shoot for a takedown. We'll never see either fight, but again, it's fun to talk about.

Wow, either way he'd lose. Boxing habits would be too hard to break and he'd be on his back within the first 5 seconds eating leather.
But if he fought Randy they could get AARP to sanction the fight.

I don't think that LL would automatically be on his back in 5 seconds. Why is it that every MMA fan hates boxing and thinks that no boxer could ever step into the octagon?
It's not like he's not gonna train or anything. He'll get plenty of training in grappling and takedown defense. Why can't a pure striker win an MMA match?

I don't think that a pure striker has no chance of winning (CroCop, Hunt)... But to have to incorporate leg kicks as well as TD defense, would be just too much for someone with boxing so permanently ingraned in their brain...
Lewis was a great boxer... But he wouldn't be able to jab his way through a fight with guys as proficient on the ground and with TD's as Randy or Fedor... Maybe Lennox vs CroCop or even a Jerome Le Banner would be more competitive... But I still think he would get destroyed in the clinch and from the outside with kicks... There's a reason K-1 fights are only 3 - 3min rounds as appose to boxing's 12

Well since Fedor has fought incredible strikers (schilt, hunt, Cro cop) and beat them standing I wen't with him, because he can do it all. Oh and Randy's "head movement" is horrible and I think Lewis could connect like Anderson did against Leben.

I have great respoct for the sweet science and under boxing RULES most MMA fighters would be up a creek as they go about position and striking all wrong.
Again, under MMA RULES where close feet and standing up straight are dangerous then a boxer's HABITS (what he does in the heat of battle) and muscle memory will have him doing the wrong things.
Training for one fight makes little difference.
If you put Randy or Fedor in the right with Lennox to BOX then Lennow would demolish them becuase they have poor weapons as pure boxers.
If you put Lennox in with them MMA style then he'll kick like a guy who learned it a few months ago, sprawl like a beginner and wouldn't have adequate wrestling skill.

I think Lewis would do better than most boxers would be able to... but then again, the transition would definitely take time. If he took enough time to train and transition, I think he could have a good chance at doing something. Then again, it might take him a while to switch from getting hit with boxing gloves to the 4-ouncers.

I think that you guys are forgetting that all LL needs is one punch to win a fight. If either guy tried to shoot on him, he could use his boxing skills to clobber them upside the head. Now, I'm not saying that LL would beat either of those guys, but I also don't think he'd get killed.

People blather about Randy's "Amazing head movement" and "Awesome footwork", but tbh they look great against Sylvia, but Lennox would destroy both of them standing.
I'd give Fedor a better shot at this, his takedowns, submissions and ground and pound are all better than Randy's, and he is younger, stronger and tougher. Both could beat him, but Fedor could do it easily.
However, I'd much rather see Lennox versus any of the elite in K-1. Oh man he would get mothered in K-1, thats for sure. Even Cro Cop, in his current slowed down, combo lacking form atm could still destroy Lennox. He has ace hands, but a boxers combos, power etc all come from their stance, which is (obviously) geard towards quick torso movement and powerful punches, but is terribly vulnerable to kicks. But In a boxing match, Lennox is one of the best.

i don't think that the head movement or footwork have anything to do here !!
the thing is that no body will try no out boxe or even exchange punch with LL, they are going to take him down , grab him, put him again the cage, everything to avoid being punch to dead !!
as soon as LL is down on his back or under control on the fence, the sub or the tape out will come very fast.
and don't forget that if they were fighting in an octogon, there is no way that LL will be able to trap one of them in a corner to punch them !! because an octogon is twice the size of a ring and there are no real corner to be trapped in !!
as for a kickboxer, well, if they were fighting in a ring with the K-1 rules, i think that LL would have a better chance than against couture or fedor in mma, but even without the take down and the clinch, the LL chance would have been not so high !! of course if they were going to give him a cans it would be different !!

Ridiculous, Lennox would get mauled by both fighters. Randy would take Lennox down and pound him until the fight was stopped. And Fedor would rip his arm off and beat him over the head with it.

obviously either fighter could take lennox to the ground easily and would win by submission or ground and pound
but if either fighter decided they would want to stand with lewis for even a round it would be an early night for your favorite mma star

okay I agree that a championship calibur boxer would not do good in mma since they would be taken to the ground very easily and probably submitted or ground and pounded from there
but how can people compare art jimmerson and butterbean to real boxers?
art jimmerson is a BUM! he spent most of his career fighting guys with 2-18 records. As soon as Art made the slightest step up in competetion he started getting KTFO every fight. In his last 9 fights he was knocked out 8 times and disqualified in the other match
People considered larry holmes washed up in 1988 when he lost to tyson, but he came back 14 years later at the age of 52 and dominated a much heavier butterbean for 10 rounds
These guys are not boxers! please stop the comparisons. That would be like me comparing brett the hitman heart to an olympic wrestler.
