KotC commentators

I just finished watching Quinton Jackson vs Rob Smith in KotC 6. I thought Mike Goldberg sucked as a commentator but holy shit. One of the KotC commentators insisted on pronouncing guillotine "gill-oh-teen" (its actually gee-uh-teen), then when Rob Smith had Quinton in a standing choke and spiked him on his head, the commentator screamed "OH MY GOD HE JUST PILEDRIVED JACKSON! THAT WAS A BEAUTIFUL PILEDRIVER!!". Then, to top it off, Jackson was going for a leglock, the commentator once again made an ass of himself and said, I shit you not, "Jackson is attempting a figure four toehold"

MMA fans always complain about commentators. And that's because most fans are so educated in this sport. This is something that fans have taken to the nth degree. I would say that about 80% of fans think that they know more than the commentators. And they may be right.

Anyway, you don't need to tell us how to pronounce guillotine. If you don't know how to pronounce the word, then you shouldn't be on this board.

I was hoping the KoTC commentator was a board member.

i actually jsut finished watching soem KOTC DVD's and know exactly what you are talking about.
These guys pretty much knew the basic techniques. and were pretty good techinically as commentators.
But they were so monotone and didnt get excited in the least for a knockdown, KO, Sub, High kick. Nothing.
Great Commentating helps a fight so much.

i dont know what sort of leg lock he was going for but in my opinion if it was a toe hold (like josh barnett on pawell nastula) then a figure four is an apt description. i think you can use that term for any time you are doing a kimura/americana type hold (reaching under and grabbing your wrist). in general though the KOC commenting is pretty funny...

Sometimes the KOTC commentating is hilarious.
In some of the older ones the commentators would laugh everytime the fighters were totally gassed and just flailing their arms around when they were trying to punch.

Entertainment right there

i gotta add. KOTC has introduced fighters that make great commentators. Where else you gonna here don frye and Rampage?
Its off and on with this event. You might get lucky and hear some awesome stuff or you might get. "well than that was a nice head kick, cherrio"

Exactly, sometimes low budget means high quality commentating from guys no one thought to put a microphone in front of. I even like Gary Goodridges commentary on the few events I've heard him on.

i agree, the commentators are pretty bad. isn't don the dragon wilson one of them?
