POLL: Would the other divisions still be better than the MW division if they were cut in half?
Yes 24% (7)
No 34% (10)
Depends on which fighters were cut 41% (12)

I just realized that you could cut divisions like LW, WW, LHW, and HW in half and they would still be more interesting then the MW division right now. Of course the HW division would be hurt the most from being cut but they would still be worth watching.

Part of me deep down wants the UFC to disband the MW division, and send the top guys like Silva, Franklin, Nate, and Yushin to either the WW or LHW division. Then with the rest of the lower level guys could go to WEC to make it a more dynamic organization. Of course this will never happen, and it's only a small part of me that wants this.

What is interesting is that the MW division has had as many (or more) scheduled title fights in the last year or so. I haven't done the count, but I can estimate

LW - 2
WW - 2
MW - 3
LHW - 2
HW - 3

I guess it really depends on where you draw the line. What's sad though is that that WW division is so stacked and it has the least amount of title fights (because of TUF6), yet MW is so weak and it is right up there with the most and we have another one coming.

I hope that TUF 7 is just Middleweights. TUF 6 and 7 should've both been Middleweights.. Get that division back up with the best of the two shows, and you've got yourself a developing division. Instead TUF 6 is more Welterweights, going to a division that doesn't need anymore.

In my opinion the most stacked to least stacked is:
Welterweight
Lightweight
Light Heavyweight
Heavyweight
Middleweight

The heavier divisions are near the bottom because guys start up there and slowly drop down. The problem is with a champion like Anderson Silva, guys don't stop at MW anymore, they keep going. With three champions in a year, WW seems like it could be open for anyone to win the title, and LW is for the guys who see that the WW is getting too stacked, and drop down.

Middleweight has been able to keep up..so far. What will happen to the division should Silva defeat Franklin again? Not much. Lutter again? Maybe Tanner?

Now can you imagine the matchups if UFC incorporated Prides (loose) weight classification system? That would also eliminate a weak UFC MW division.

Heavyweight (more than 93 kg / 205 lb)
Middleweight (less than or equal to 93 kg / 205 lb)
Welterweight (less than or equal to 83 kg / 183 lb)
Lightweight (less than or equal to 73 kg / 161 lb)

Current MW champion chooses the division he wants to fight in and gets an immediate title shot.

Speaking of the Pride guys, if Henderson loses do you think he'll face Silva. Also do you think he'll choose to be a MW fighter in the UFC full time (or stick with the LHW Division)?

I really believe he'll go to MW. Dana needs people in that div, and he'll pay more money if hendo's there to give rich and anderson another big name to fight.

There are good fighters at that weight they just haven't been signed to the UFC yet. If they went out and got Frank Shamrock, Dennis Kang and Matt Lindland and moved Filho over from the WEC the division would look fine.

it was Zuffa's descion to put Filho in WEC not his, Frank Shamrock......well we all know his story , you couldn't pay him enough money to fight in the UFC, Dennis Kang is likely to sign with K-1 Heroes soon, and Matt Lindland.....well......he needs to go back down to MW and stay there......enough with fighting in the top weight classes, is any one else sick of this?.......he's like a top 5 MW but doesn't act like one, also Hendo wants to fight at LHW, and MW he wants both titles, hes not one of the top p4p fighters in the world for nothing

I think they should cut ww and send everyone to mw or lw.

I believe Dana said before that he (Hendo) will fight only at LHW. Remember that MW in PRIDE equals LHW in UFC.

As for Silva, if he beats Franklin then it's safe to say he's probably like when Hughes was dominating at WW or Liddell at LHW. You set them up, he knocks them down. And usually quite convincingly.

Silva is so domanint that you say get rid of the weight class give it time a lot of fighters are moving down because they cant make it a LHW its comming with all the Top dogs in that call they cant make it

Another thing I might need to add to my statement about part of me wanting them to just disband the MW division (again a small part of me), is that I didn't want this to immediately happen. I figured that once we had like Silva/Franklin 4, Silva/Okami, Silva/Martin, Silva/Cote, Silva/Eastman, etc. we should do this. When Anderson is walking through guys like they are paper walls, it gets to be embarrassing. The difference with Silva and Hughes/Liddell is that Hughes and Liddell always had others who were a threat to take the title from him. Besides Rich, at this moment I can't think of anyone (who is in the ufc) who can take him.

I just don't want to get to a point where we are seeing the MW version of Sylvia/Monson..
