FIGHTLAND

Up until about the third minute of his fight last weekend in Las Vegas, UFC featherweight and Ultimate Fighter winner Jonathan Brookins was actually beating up Dustin Poirier. This seemed to surprise pretty much everyone, including Jonathan Brookins. Not because he didn’t believe he was capable of beating Poirier but because he didn’t want to be fighting at all. Walking into the Octagon that night, his mind was 1000 miles away -- or rather 8000 miles away – floating through the ether.

Idk why, but this article just seemed cool as fuck to me. Jonathan Brookins was really spiritual when he was on the show, but this is just another level. Reminds me of Dan Hardy's recent Ayahuasca ritual.

...because 90% of MMA media are unprofessional fan boys.

Something about Vice that's just real and different.

Sounds to me like J Brooks is taking his losing streak pretty hard.

It's funny, I remember watching the part where he mentions Diamond talking shit at the weigh-ins & I was like "I wonder what he said?". Little did I know Diamond just changed Brookins whole life perspective.

Well I hope he finds what he is searching for & hopefully he gets the urge to step back in the cage someday. Goodluck on your journey Jonathan Brookins

Pretty interesting, you can tell he's serious, and it sounds like he's driven more by his spiritual desire than anything right now. I'd really be surprised if it led him back to fighting.

Reminds me of 49ers running back Glen Coffee.

I think this was the weirdest/coolest retirement story since Tanner.

Brookins very obviously doesn't like to fight. He might like technique and learning and the physicality of it all, but he never liked fighting and you can't be successful on the world stage if you don't really care about it. Best of luck to him.

To be a professional fighter you must enjoy hurting another person on some hidden psychological level.....or even fulm blown concious level.....I honestly don't think he is that type.

i don't think everyone has to like hurting people to be successful in this sport. I think many like it for the competition...like in brookins case.
