"Daddy's" coming home ... for good.

Former UFC lightweight title contender and recent featherweight debutant Joe Stevenson has been released by the UFC, according to MMAFighting.com.

The move comes on the heels of the biggest slump in the longtime veteran's career. After losing three in a row at 155-pounds, UFC brass gave him the opportunity to reinvent himself at 145-pounds.

I thought it would have happened when they were making the other cuts from the last card they fought.

It's true. He needs to stop trying to strike and go back to striking to set up the takedown and grappling with guys.

His body has looked shot in his last few times He's been fighting professionally since like 1999 and it's finally catching up to him.

He had a longer rope then most do. Dude had a lot of promise when he was fighting in KOTC and Gladiator Challenge. Still looked good on the ultimate fighter. He had 29 fights before he ever fought in the ufc and he's only 29 right now. But he faced some of the best lightweights the sport has to offer. Hopefully he can get his career back on track and make it back.

Who does he sign with? Maybe Bellator? I'd like to see him fight some of their featherweights like Mann, Sandro, Curran, etc.

I just don't get how he can train with one of the supposedly better camps and still not evolve or how he can just throw the gameplan out the window.

Like just standing and trading with guys, even though he was hanging in there with the guys and wasn't getting finished he was losing the fight. Too content to stand sometimes.

Stevenson started out 8-4 until this recent 4 fight losing streak. He's tied for 4th in career ufc loses with Tito

Bellator would be crazy not to jump all over this. Their FW division is arguably their best division and adding Joe Daddy would just solidfy that. He'd bring some ufc fans over as well.

He used to be one of the UFC 's golden boys. It is no shock though. You can't perform like that and expect to still fight in the UFC. He needs to up his game a little, pick off a few wins in a different promotion and he will more than likely be back in the UFC. For now he should go to Bellator but they will probably make some silly excuse not to sign him like they did with Nate Marquardt. I don't think Bellator can afford to pay those guys what they want. Zuffa should sign him to Strikeforce.

MFC or DREAM can put together some interesting matches. Clementi vs Stevenson?

I agree 100%, but it seems like Bellator has been laying low on signing any of the recent releases, i.e. Marquardt whom I thought for sure they would sign. While I'd think they'd need to be more aggressive, I guess it's a smart business decision on their part not overpaying for every UFC castoff that comes along. I still be surprised if they don't pick him up though.

Did you even watch any of Tito's fights prior to the Bader fight? At least he was losing to top guys (minus Hamill) in close fights.

Yeah Tito was fighting top LWHs. And its not like Tito was getting handled either. Daddy deserves to get cut, I actually thought he should have been done after 3.

Possibly sooner than 3 even. He's 3-7 in his last 10.

Bellator should really consider getting him now after Soto's loss tonight. They banked a full tournament around a guy & then they let him fight in Tachi Palace Fights & he gets rocked then subbed in about 2 minutes......

Still a massive shame imo.

Would love to see him win his way back to the UFC one day though.

It's funny to think this was a guy that won their show, challenged for the LW belt and was in some peoples top 10 for awhile. But his last fight with Vazquez almost seemed pre-destined to me, he has been going downhill, he doesnt follow the gameplan and doesnt take it seriously anymore. He could get ko'd again like in the Danzig fight, it was a good move to cut Joe.

Joe Daddy was the asme fighter through out his entire career in the UFC. He was good until he hit the top guys and never could break that barrier. Hopfully he signs with Belator or somone and can get back to winning fights like he used to. With great TDs and GnP/Guillotine chokes.
