IFL-style fight teams...

I thought it would be fun to assemble IFL-style teams from the rosters of various MMA gyms, using the best fighters available (I took some liberties, where I felt like doing so).

Each roster consists of one fighter in each weight-class: 265 lbs, 205, 185, 170, and 155. Rosters were assembled using information available from Sherdog and Wikipedia, so I can't promise they're 100% up-to-date.

Filho at 170 is pushing it. Bustamante probably has a better chance of making 170. Their best guy at 170 would probably be Milton Vieira. And Filho at 185.

Does Gracie Barra even count really? Doesn't Sobral train out of Brazil and Roger out of England?

Good idea though. I like having real teams.

Their only problem is some of their fighters already fight in the UFC. So it would be limited a bit, I think they also need alternates. So they really need teams with 2-4 people in each weight class. Not all teams have ~15 active pro fighters.

I guess we'll just have to wait a year or so until the Fertitta's buy the IFL....

I was watching an IFL broadcast, which naturally got me to thinking, "Who would I want on my team?" Then I started thinking it would be fun to do a "fantasy league"-style draft of MMA fighters. If you've ever done a fantasy baseball or fantasy football draft, you know what I mean. Then I noticed that Dan Henderson was helping to corner the team coached by Matt Lindland, and that got me to thinking about actual MMA gyms...

I was looking at their heights, mainly. Filho is short for 185, and has a pretty buff physique. Not to say he could easily cut to 170, but Bustamante is 6'0" and pretty slim at 185.

I'm sure there are any number of complications that would make these fight teams all-but impossible. This is purely a fantasy thread.

Brazil: Big Nog, Shogun, Anderson Silva, Paulo Filho, and Marcus Aurelio.

Canada: ???, Jason MacDonald, Denis Kang, Georges St. Pierre, and Ivan Menjivar. Can't think of a Canadian who could fight at Heavyweight.

Japan: Kazuyuki Fujita, Kazuhiro Nakamura, Akihiro Gono, Shinya Aoki, and Takanori Gomi.
