PWB Pod Cast Live recently featured special guest, former welterweight champion Matt Hughes on their Official Hotline covering multiple topics.
The main topic covered during the discussion was the possible match-up between Hughes and Matt “The Terror” Serra. Hughes stated him and UFC matchmaker Joe Silva has been in contact and currently expecting January or February to hold the fight.
The H.I.T. Squad combatant is currently suffering a knee injury but anticipates for a natural recovery which will treat a match early 2009 kindly. If that is not the case and the fighter will have to undergo surgical repair, it is unlikely the fight will take place anytime soon.
The title fight between Hughes and Serra was scheduled to take place on December 2007 concluding The Ultimate Fighter 6 Finale. The highly sought match-up grew during their time as coaches on TUF 6; however, that rapidly departed as Serra was forced out of the match due to a back injury.
Hughes then went on to face Georges St-Pierre losing the Interim championship fight and his opportunity to face Serra in April, earlier this year at UFC 83. St-Pierre then defeated the Jiu-Jitsu fighter during the April event, making him the undisputed welterweight champion.
