I was wondering if anybody has heard any news recently about him? He was being hyped up to be the next big thing in the HFC LW division after his win over Guida and then hes been silent since then. Is he injured maybe?

I thought I heard something about him taking a break to finish up school. He had a really busy 2007, especially compared to the UFC "Big Timers."

Well he was at the Weigh Ins this past weekend and I got to meet him. Aside from that he said something about taking time off until the summer after his last fight. It's a well deserved break. I'm certain that he will get the winner of Florian/Lauzon for the #1 Contendership.

He said after the Guida fight at the TUF 6 Finale that he was taking time off to rest, finish his education, and do other things. He's likely going to be back late this summer.

the winner of Florian/Lauzon seems logical to me as well..

or even Tyson Griffin or Edgar would be good

Guy Huerta fought 5 freaking times in 2007!!!!!!

More fights than ANYONE has ever fought in the UFC in one year and he won them all!

Sh*t most guys in the UFC have 5 fights in 2 or 3 years!

Since Zuffa bought the UFC who has fought 5 times in one year?

Old UFC don't count, different rules etc.

yeah but most ufc guys fight decent competition in every fight.
4 out of his 5 were against cans, and the 5th he was being thoroughly dominated before catching guida.

Old UFC doesn't count because Royces 9 fights are more impressive? Huerta fought 5 times in a year with rules. Royce fought 9 times without rules and he was fighting 3 times a night. Which sounds like it deserves more credit?

In no way am I comparing Royce to Huerta.......Royce is a legend and an incredible hall of famer but the MMA game has long past Royce Gracie.

The level of skilled fighters today are far superior than when Royce was dominating, straight up BJJ isn't enough anymore.

Royce definitely deserves more credit than the Matador.

He turned down the fight with Florian at next months fight night in order to rest up, dunno how happy the UFC are about that tbh, he is pretty much the top contender so when he comes back he needs to fight the winner of Edgar VS Maynard or Tyson Griffin imo

i think he will return in aug to fight in minnesota against florian/lauzon winner

if you see that fighters from same camp fight on same card trend, if so i see rampage's buddy kongo fighting in july vs slyvia
for couture's gym i see maybe tyson griffin on the card as well as stephan bonner fighting,

I'm not sure about the other three fights but the fight with Lenard Garcia was a war. With Huerta winning decisively. And IMO Garcia is no can he is a true fighter with lots of heart

yea, just too small for the LW division and out of his league in the striking and wrestling department.

why not huerta vs edgar for 1#contender.

no one of lauzon and florian deserved a title shot

How does Florian not deserve a title shot??? He only lost to Sherk by decision and has since beat alot of tough guys, the timing isnt great tho, in a perfect world he would then fight a Tyson or Huerta but maybe Kenny will get the title shot if he wins and then they have those 2 previously mentioned fight each other for the next title shot?
prozacnation1978

there are at least 3 or 4 guys that are in the mix for a title shot i do see at least maybe one more lightweight title shot this year then next year maybe another one on superbowl weekend in vegas,

you got florian, huerta, edgar, griffin
then close to them not trailing behind that much you have lauzon, diaz,
also franca in the mix, the lightweight division is so competitive i am just curious who will get next shot at the title,
i see it being huerta vs florian if he wins if he loses and edgar wins i see them hooking up.

I think before all of you start talkin on here about how huerta deserves a title shot i think you all should look at the people he has been fighting in the UFC. The only good/elite fighter this dude has fought is clay guida and he lost the first two rounds of that fight. Also huerta has showed some downside in some of his wins against lesser opponents in the octagon. Heres a crazy idea lets have him fight a top contender at 155 then talk about title shot. he hasnt fought griffin, ken-flo,sherk,stevenson,edgar,spencer fisher, manny gamburyan,or even a kurt pellinegro... I think you all should wait to judge el matador once he has some quality wins under his belt cause im just not convinced yet....
