like who the hell is this guy, come on. His only weapon is the stand up (not including the clinch, as his teams is always screaming in the background NO KNEES NO KNEES!!!) and somehow now in his fights theres this no choking rule. Kimbo's a cheap street fighter although powerfull, I still couldnt make out any skill in his striking game. Bringing this guy into any mma circle is an insult to all of those real fighters, I think. Now i know i can't be the only one feeling like this...

From what I've heard the guy trains his ass off, at least that's what Bas was saying on some radio show when Kimbo was training with the IFL's Anacondas... I think the reason that the don't knee / choke on his internet fights is because they are a modified boxing rules match... The don't normally fight on the ground, etc... Anyhow the same reason that they don't knee and choke in a boxing match... He actually seems like a really nice guy in interviews, and like mentioned he works hard... Why not give him a shot? Everyone has to come up some way, if that was his so be it... I'd say judge what he does in MMA fights, after all he did win his 1st fight by sub

Looks like you are. I think that if a guy chooses to fight, let him fight. He's doing better than Shannon "The Cannon" Ritch, who has to be one of the worse fighters in the world of MMA. If Ritch can continue to fight, then why not let Kimbo fight? If they can let Richard Dalton fight, and just spend three rounds pushing Daniel Puder against the cage with no action, then Kimbo who is an action packed fighter can fight. He's made a name for himself, and if he's as bad as you say, then he'll lose. Still if he wants to fight, let him.

I will admit I have no respect for him as a street fighter, the people he fought were all out of shape bums, even just by looking at them you could tell they wern't real competition, and yes, he did get schooled by Gannon a bit (though Gannon's face got messed up, he was still able to fight at the end, Kimbo wasnt) but as an MMA fighter I have respect for him. If Bas says he trains his ass off, then we have it on good authority he is a hard worker. He looks like he doesn't just want to rely on his hands since they might work against unskilled opponents on the street, but against other skilled strikers in a cage its a different story.

While we don't really know yet how good he will be, his first win was promising, the fact he won by guillotine choke kind of dismisses the criticism that all he has is heavy hands.

I think winning by guillotine was a big thing. It showed that he isn't just training in boxing and is learning mma. It also shows that even though everyone wanted to see him get a highlight reel knockout he is fighting to win, and is smart enough to do it.

Well then, i must apologize for hatin' on Kimbo and well sorry to all his fans on here i guess... I hope i'm wrong, see where he ends up. Just can't really respect the fact that he had to do drugs b4 every one of his street fights so he couldnt feel shit when he got hit... apart from that

Come on, whats with all this Kimbo hating recently?? lol
Everybody has to come from somewhere? MMA Fighters do not always have BJJ experience since they were 4 years old, or Muay Thai since age 6.....

People CAN start as plain raw talent in MMA, and from there develop their skills... I dont see anything wrong with that.
The hype and whatever could be a bit subued IMO.. either way he's a former bodyguard and streetfighter.... how could he not get into the temptation of transitioning into MMA?
That and of course the money + fame is always an influence on your decisions.
Good luck Kimbo.

Where'd you hear that? Althoug I don't really doubt it's true, but wouldn't put it past the guys he was fighting either... There's really no control when some gangstas start scrappin in someone's back yard or whatever...

Not really a fan, just open to giving him a chance... sorry if we didn't all hop on the bandwagon and start hatin

That is so ignorant its ridiculous. He's been training like crazy the past couple years to get ready for the mma world. His boxing is decent, although no credit should be given due to him beating up chumps on the street. Regardless, Bas even vouched that he's ready to surprise a lot of people with his skills.

He actually seems to be like a nice guy from interviews I have seen with him and he also does work very hard. However, I do not care for him as a fighter.

He is beyond one dimensional at this point and he would be crushed by any true MMA heavyweight. I would love to see him fight someone like Carmello Marrero and see what happens.

I also think he would lose a stand up battle with good stand-up MMA heavweights. I know he beat Mercer, but he is beyond old and Kimbo took him down anyways. Put him in there with Buentello and Kimbo gets KO'd.

But as a person, he seems alright.

What makes you so sure? Does Carmello train with Bas?

If Bas Rutten says this guy is a specimen, that he's training like mad man and that he's commited to MMA, who am I to say that this guy is a chump?
I've been against him for as long as I can remember but really I've seen nothing that leads me to believe he CAN'T have success in MMA.

No, I dont think Marrero trains with Bas. I say he can beat Kimbo because Marrero is very good on the ground so I think he would shoot and take Kimbo down and finish the fight with an armbar.

No disrespect to Kimbo, I think he trains his ass off and really cares about the sport, but are we all ready to say his name in the same breath as Buentello and Marrero just because he trains with Bas?

I know I am not...he beat some street fighters and one MMA match against a guy with no previous MMA experience. So maybe he will grow and get better, but dont disrespect Marrero and Buentello by saying he is at their level.

You are absolutely correct, Kimbo should receive credit where credit is due, and as you said, he has only fought once against an aging boxer. However, since we haven't seen the breadth of his skills yet, I don't think it's fair to say that either of the competitors you mentioned would beat Kimbo. If this was Kimbo a year ago we were discussing, I'd say that Sean Salmon could beat Kimbo, however now, with his training regimen through Bas, I honestly don't know what to think until I see him fight again.

Its not like the UFC signed him right of the bat (see Sean Gannon). He started off in a small org fighting a one dimensional fighter.
You hate Kimbo? So what he is gonna work his way up the chain by the looks of it. Imagine if he proved himself to be a compotnent fighter and a celebrity.
Might have some selling power huh.
FYI Kimbo trains at Xtreme Couture. They teach a bit more than street fighting there.

Thank you, oh great swami... You must be psychic... Nobody knows how good he is yet. He may be the second coming of Couture... He may be utter crap... But Ill tell you one thing for sure:

He's not on his computer typing about fighting, he's actually in there doing it. Save those kinds of opinions for something you actually know about.
