Let's say, just for the sake of argument, that when it comes to the World Series of Fighting (or, really, any MMA organization not named UFC or Bellator), we can all agree on what the question is.

And I also think Josh Burkman saying Fitch needs to earn his spot in the WSOF is hilarious, He should be a comedian I was still laughing about it when I was laying in bed.

He makes some good points.

It's not like he's angling for a shot himself, he's just correctly pointing out that WSOF is making the same mistake every organization but Bellator has made already.

Granting an immediate title shot to a guy who was just cut from the UFC and has never fought for your organization is essentially conceding that your division is 2nd rate. Its even worse when that guy is coming off a loss.

In Bellator no matter who you are, you have to win a tournament to get a shot at their title. I don't think it would hurt WSOF to have Fitch beat someone before getting a shot at their belt.

I haven't read the article but IMO Fitch shouldn't be fighting for the WSOF title. No outside fighter should have the opportunity before winning 1-2 fights in the organization. I felt the same way when some Strikeforce champions wanted immediate title shots. They haven't paid their dues in the organization.

If Burkman beats Fitch, then it's good for WSOF. If he loses then it kind of makes them look bad, but not that much, Jon Fitch isn't your average former UFC fighter.

I think Burkman will beat Fitch, and I think Sefo thinks the same, hence why he's pushing the fight.

Fitch wins 10 times out of 10, one legged, no handed and an eye patch on one eye

come on, he lost to Pete Sell., doesn't matter what he's accomplished since.

Really? A guy who has lost to only top guys since he entered the UFC isn't worthy of a title shot? Lets run through the 3 guys that beat him in the UFC. First person to beat him was GSP, current long time reigning title holder. Second, Johnny Hendricks, next in line to challenge said title holder. Last but not least, Demian Maia, former title contender at MW. So this guy fought top competition at the highest level his entire career and absolutely dominated all but 3 guys, all of whom are either current title holders/contenders, or a former contender, and the guy doesn't deserve a title shot? Ridiculous. Fitch has proven to be a great fighter his entire career and is arguably still top 5. Sometimes I swear, some peoples children...

Title shot??!!?? Pffft...whatever....Ray doesn't even have championship belts to give to his "Champions"'- - rumor has it Ray-Ray will nix the Belt thingy and pass out World Series of Poker chips instead.

Isn't Hurricane Harris retired? Well, he should be after getting choked out by wife beater Falcao and utterly embarrassed by the aforementioned Burkman.

A guy that ended his UFC career on a three fight losing skid to Sell, Hazelett and Swick shouldn't be telling Jon Fitch anything.

But isn't it? Does anyone dispute that WSOF is 2nd rate when compared to the UFC?

Not that I mind...I'll still watch. I think it's a bit silly for WSOF or any non-UFC org to try and fight the public's perception that they are "second rate". If you have success as an organization and start recruiting fighters with every bit as much talent as (current) UFC fighters, then fantastic...you are no longer 2nd rate. But until such time...wear the badge proudly and create an entertaining product with what you have.

Hell, I think Fitch should still be in the UFC, But you can't say that about the rest of WSOF's roster.

the ufc does this kind of thing on the regular. no big deal.

seems like nobody is considering fitch actually losing the shot. which imo would be a huge win for wsof.

Maybe it is 2nd rate compared to the UFC, but IMO by giving him an immediate shot they are even conceding the 2nd spot to Bellator.

Whether you think a guy is good enough to beat your title holder or not the point is that the onus should be on the fighter to prove it by actually winning some fights in his new home.

By granting him an immediate shot you are basically saying that every fight to determine seeding within your division is worthless because none of your fighters are as good as whoever the next UFC castoff will be.

Its one thing if its a title holder switching organizations. In that case I can see why you'd have an immediate title shot, but in the case of a middle of the division fighter coming off a loss it strikes me as desperate.

You honestly think Burkman will beat Fitch? I'd shit myself if he did
