For me, it's without a doubt Gomi's infamous pen incident from his shooto days.

It happened during his fight with Yoshihiro Kuwabara. They were feeling each other out Circling and exchaning pawing jabs and kicks, and BAM Kuwabara hits Gomi across the face with a high kick. Gomi, as expected, begins sailing toward the canvas by all appearances COMPLETELY out of it. But then Something wonderful happens, as the ref is coming forward to check on him he knocks a pen out of his pocket and sends it skittering across the ring to land by Takanori's head. He apparently sees it, and this folks, is where the funny comes in. Gomi IMMEDIATELY grabs the pens and jumps to his feet, as if he didn't just eat an undefended shin to the face, turns to the referee and says. "Here's your pen sir, you dropped it."

And the kicker, he went on to win that fight by unanimous decision. Well guys, that's my favorite, what was yours?

It's probably not the funniest moment, but the one that comes to mind from recent memory is the Luke Cummo/Josh Haynes fight:

In the second round, Cummo is pressing the action near the edge of the cage. Cummo pops Haynes will a solid shot and puts him to the mat. The ref steps in immediately to end it, as Haynes' eyes rolling to the back of his head only compliments his already postmortem physique. At this point, it's as if Haynes has risen from the dead, and posts up immediately. "Bring the Pain" has been brought the pain and isn't sure what day it is...or who he's fighting for that matter. In a wholehearted attempt, Haynes lunges forward, tackling the referee, as if he'd slept with Josh's kid sister. Eventually Haynes come to...and realizes his error, but this was the closest I've seen a ref to getting his ass whooped yet...aside from WWE of course.

Good story. I never heard that one thread starter.

And grappler, you could have just said "Ydoc's avatar -the loser badge."

Hmmm, funniest moments in MMA? I'll go with Lee Murray's illegally funded UFC mural..

Carved from stone, it dominates an entire wall opposite the site of a new whirlpool bath.

Oh thanks guys. I was thinking it'd be cool if it became a fad, with other people sporting little badges in their avatars poking fun at themselves.

Sorry about hijacking the thread.

Back on topic... this sequence by Nick Serra from CFFC 5 sounds funny:

Nick gives a post fight interview with the monkey mask on and no one can hear him. Crowd boos, Nick says something along the lines of "Monkeys love cages". This whole Monkey schtick isn't going over at all. Varner says Nick's BJJ is world class and he's going to improve on the ground. He says he respects Nick but the crowd boos extra loud, Mike swears to God and that gets applause.

You know, Ive seen the gif of this a million times, but never knew the story behind it. Way to play it off Gomi, lol. Thanks for the thread, its a fun read.

I guess I should contribute... It may not be the alltime fav in my eyes, but its a classic. Not so much when Heath Herring was kissed in the staredown, but afterwards.

"What? He kissed me on the lips like a homosexual. I am not a homosexual." So matter of fact, its funny to me.

My two funniest moments are when Bonnar rolled back to his shoulders to spring up from the canvas without his hands. He springs up directly into a waiting fist and is out cold. Happened during Liddell v. Couture 2 I think.

I'd have to say aleksander emelianenko vs james thompson was pretty hilarious from start to finish. I can't help but laugh as the camera switches back and forth from the image of james thompson quivering with intensity as he tries to give aleksander the most intimidating stare he can muster while pummeling his own chest and face and the image of aleksander rolling his eyes towards the ceiling with the most non-chalante expression I've ever seen a professional fighter sporting, occasionally stopping to scratch his nose and raise his arm half-heatedly for the crowd. Watching him get pummeled in something like 15 seconds made the staredown about 10 times more hilarious.

One of my other favs is BJ Penn vs Caol Uno at UFC 34. Caol comes in and does his zen mental preparation routine, laying on the mat spread eagle staring up at the sky, when BJ is announced, he sprints into the ring without waiting for his cornermen, or stopping to high-five the audience. Uno runs at him with a flying karate kick hitting nothing but air, Bj punches him in the face 5 or 6 times, and runs directly out of the ring back to his locker room at full speed without waiting for the victory announcement or any of his trainers once again.

I just remembered another great one from Shooto I thought I'd share here. This one is from Joachim Hansen's bout with the always exciting Rumina Sato.

It was a pretty brief fight, mostly cautious feeling out strikes and working for a chance to land something effective or work for a takedown. And then, sato shoots in to take things to the mat and catches one of hansen's trademark defensive knee strikes.( you NEVER shoot on Hellboy) Joachim drops down to deliver some strikes for good measure and ref quickly steps in to stop the bout. Hansen, as expected goes nuts (he just knocked out Japanese MMA's equivalent of Randy Couture, and one of the sports living legends) and wings his mouthpiece into The crowd. The funny part, you say?

He DRILLED Caol Uno's Mother right in the forehead! Joachim was however, gracious enough to come out into the audience and not only apologize personally, but give her a big 'ole hug. Not bad for a fellow descended from bloodthristy viking stock.

Well, that's it, hope you guys enjoy, and feel free to add any others that pop into your head, or even silly stories you have from your own training mishaps etc.

I think when Severn asked Big John if two trains left [city] at [so many] miles an hour heading in opposite directions
how many apples would be in the basket, before his fight with coleman during the intros when the ref asks do you have any questions

There are many

Here are a couple I can think of off the bat

UFC 4 - Dan Severn wins his first match and gets interviewed. I can't remember if it was Jeff Blatnik or whom, but they asked Dan what he was going to do between now and his next fight, and his conerman got pissed and sarcastically said "he's going to have sex what do you think he's going to do?"

The other one was an interview with Tank. Jeff Blatnick was saying that people are calling you [Tank] cockey, brash even arrogant. and Tank replied.... "Oh I don't know the meaning of those words Jeff. I only went to a state college I didn't go to a university."

For me its got to Jerome Le Banner versus Bob Sapp

Sapp is getting mauled for the first rounds, and is trying to get out of fighting on, but his corner refuse to end it, and tell him he is going to go back out there and fight, and he displays the most awesome look of wide eyed terror at the prospect of another ass whooping

< He looked like that. Only bigger. And blacker.

The Coleman fall has already been mentioned , but I'll quickly add a few of my other favorites. Every single one of these things made me laugh fro awhile the first time I saw or heard them.

The Arlovski /Datsik fight( AA's first) - where Bas and Quadros are laughing uncontrollably as Datsik is going Van Damme , with some crazy movie type stuff that never works. Funniest part is he actually won ended up KOing Arlovski.

Joe Son getting repeatedly nutt punched by Hackney

Rampage saying he is going to root for Wandy to get a quick KO , so he can take a s**t.

In the 8 part cro-cop documentary -when the old guys get in the drunken back yard fight. When one gets tagged Mirko lets out this high pitched laugh that was priceless.

Luke Cummos contemptuous front kick at the end of the fight against Torres on TUF 2. It was like a exclamation point of ownage.

Bob Sapp sitting down and crying after Mirko popped him.

Bob Sapp just picking Big Nog up and setting him aside , while Nog was trying to get position on top of him

Burkmans choke throw on Ficket into the side of the cgae

Tito underhooking Shamrock and handtrucking him across the octagon

Almost anything Tank Abbot has ever said.

Matt Hughes just shaking his head and saying " Frank" ,as Trigg gives the most obvious attempt to hype a fight in history. He say stuff like" I come from a better family, I'm better looking, I have better kids" It was hilarious.

Hughes parting shot after Serrras stormed off after a rant about Laimon not being a fighter when Hughes commented how he would like to see them roll together. " So are you gonna roll? "

Wandy proving his English wasn't quite good enough yet" I want to F**k Chuck"

Wandy to Page" I'm going to make you my new Sakaraba"

Rampages video where makes Congo cracks about Wandy on his old website while playing video games.

The look on Eddie Sanchez's face as Mirko stalked him around the ring

Forrest apologizing for spooning Mahood

Houstons choke slam on Silva

Travis Lutter ( of all people) landing a one punch Ko on Eastman to start the second.

GSP incorrectly correcting himself. " I beat him square and fair ... Oh .. I'm sorry.. fairily. squarily" '

The entire Diaz/Riggs episode on Sherdog radio.

Almost anything Mayhem says

The slow-mo shot of Dana's face watching the ping pong ball in the Pulver/Penn cash game.

The all time greatest for me is in Manhef /Cyborg. That fight was such an incredible war that when Manhoef won, Cyborg didn't know. He sits up and he is still trying to hit a exhausted, victorious, flat -on -his back, collapsed Manheof. He throws these little hammerfist that look like he is trying to give CPR.

Whoa, my thread came back from the dead! Thanks for the adds guys, and the compliments on the thread idea, I try to post interesting stuff. I also have to give special mention to pretty much every Wanderlei Silva interview ever. He's such an excitable and passionate guy and gets pumped beyond belief talking about anything and everything that interests him even the slightest bit. He's like a hyper kid on Christmas morning going berserk over all his new goodies. i always get a chuckle out of it, really funny and cool guy.
