At just 24 years old, Dutch heavyweight Stefan Struve said there is still plenty of time for him to earn a UFC title shot.

But at 6-1 in his past seven fights – and with all six of those wins coming via stoppage – the 7-footer may find his name called sooner rather than later.

In the meantime, after earning a "Fight of the Night" win over the previously undefeated Stipe Miocic at Saturday night's UFC on FUEL TV 5 event, Struve has another name in mind: Fabricio Werdum.

If he thinks he can compete with him on the ground then either he's in for a big shock of the world of Brazilian jiu-jitsu is in for a shock.
He might have a shot if he's smart like everyone else and avoids taking it to the ground at all costs.

That's the fight I want to see

It makes sense rankings wise, imo. The skyscraper is on the rise! (pun certainly intended) Tough fight for Struve if it happens though.

It makes perfect sense right now. JDS and Velasquez are fighting each other, Mir's hurt, Cormier not likely as it's a short notice fight, Nelson/Carwin locked for TUF, and I doubt they want to eliminate a contender by pairing him with Overeem. A Browne rematch also is pretty good if he wins this weekend, but the winner of Werdum/Struve should guarantee a #1 contender fight with Browne (if he beats Bigfoot) or Cormier. I don't really want to see Struve vs Big Nog either.

After watching Wiman armbar Sass and Brimage escape backmount from Hettes, I'm not so sure Werdum will automatically sub Struve if this fight goes to the mat.

Werdum would probably just easily take Struve down and lay for 3-5 rounds.

Dont get me wrong, I was stoke one of my favorite fighters won yesterday but that doesnt mean Struve is ever getting a title with his wrestling disadvantage from being 6'11 or however tall he is.

Where do you get this from? When was the last time Werdum LnPed anyone? I agree Struve may have a disadvantage keeping it standing based on his height, but I don't think it would be an LnP. Struve has great subs, but he has yet to get into a grappling war with a black belt like Werdum. Werdum also doesn't have the greatest take downs, so if Struve can keep his distance or keep it against the cage he should be safe.

He wont be safe. Werdums not scared of anyones striking game really. Werdum should be able to get top position but will have a hell of a time landing anything or passing Sruves lanky guard. It's simple physical standpoint.

You dont pass a lanky guard if a guy has great fundamentals and obviously youre not subbing them while in their guard. I see a snowballs chance that Struve is able to sub Werdum ever. If he tries toward the end of the fight maybe that will be Werdums chance to pass/do damage.

Overall I see it like this, Struve has a chance for a knockout, but only at the starts of the rounds and in scrambles up. Werdum has a chance for a sub maybe or for a knockout on the ground, but only if Struve is being offensive and giving up position. And overall the control time should be all in Werdums hands.

So..... aside from a flash finish from either its a decision win for werdum. Thats just my assessment.

Two of the best sub games in the HW pool. I think its a great fight. Struve never gets easy fights, why stop now haha

At this moment in time I'm going with Struve UD

Struve can keep himself out of trouble on the ground. His game on the ground coupled with his size pretty much negates werdums bjj IMO.

Now what I think Struve needs to watch out for would be one of his legs.

Definitely an interesting fight. While Struve has impressed me recently, I don't feel that this will be a easy fight for either guy. Struves reach will give just about any Heavyweight fits. Werdum has always been know as the "Jiu Jitsu Guy" but his fights against Nelson and Russow have shown me he is more than just that. His knees against Roy were vicious and in his next fight he tko'd Russow. Struve on the other hand just took out Miocic when I figured Miocic would be taking out Struve. I'm in favor of this fight and I won't be counting out either guy whether its standing up or on the ground

Personally I think that Werdum wrecks him standing and gets a ko/tko.

Werdum is out of his league standing and on the ground, IMO.

Standing he's a lot more technical, with better power and wayyyyyyy better defense.

On the ground, Werdum is just a bad match up for Struve. Struve's lanky limbs help him on the ground against a lot of people but I'm pretty sure those limbs would look like a gift wrapped prize for Werdum.

I actually think Werdum would have a great chance of submitting him from the guard with a leg lock.

There are levels in jiu jitsu (more so than striking or wrestling) and Werdum is really on another level. I would be shocked if Struve could win that fight.

Shocked but not disappointed. I'm a fan of Struve for sure.

I posted this matchup after the fights yesterday in my camp forum. As mentioned above this match makes perfect since right now with injuries and the other top HW's already scheduled to fight.
Werdum's standup has came along ways and I don't really think he'll be at a disadvantage standing except for Struve reach advantage.
I hope this fight happens. The winner will probably be 1 win away from a title match. I've been wanting to see a JDS vs Werdum rematch. That's still far away though because Jds still has to get by Cain. And of course Werdum would have to get by Struve. And then there's Cormier and The Reem that are still in this mix.
