Frank Mir injured, out of Strikeforce heavyweight fight against Daniel Cormier

Frank Mir (16-6 MMA, 14-6 UFC) will not fight Daniel Cormier (10-0 MMA, 7-0 SF), as it turns out.
An undisclosed injury has forced the ex-UFC champ to withdraw from "Strikeforce: Cormier vs. Mir," which takes place Nov. 3 at Chesapeake Energy Center in Oklahoma City, Okla., and airs live on Showtime and Showtime Extreme.
MMAjunkie.com (mmajunkie.com) confirmed the news on Tuesday night with a source close to the promotion following an initial report from news show Sports Rage. It's unknown whether a replacement for Mir has been found.

god damnit. i was really looking forward to seeing if cormier was ready for the top fighters in the ufc. i think they should just bring him into the ufc for one of the cards in November or December.

Injuries happen in all sports but especially in combat sports where you're training to step in the cage. I hate injures as much as the next guy but I'd rather them pull out and care for their health instead of fighting injured which would most likely make for a bad performance anyway.
I hope they find a new opponent. I wouldn't mind if they used Travis Browne and found someone else (maybe Mitrione) for Big Foot.

Oh well, I wasn't a big fan of the match up anyway and Mir would probably lose how he always loses, via tko.

I understand that if you want to reach the top or stay at the top you have to train harder than ever before but this is getting ridiculous.All of these fighters who are getting injured better be showing Zuffa their "doctor's excuses".

this is really beyond the joke now, it seems just in the last year there have been more cancellations of big fights than anytime before.

The actual quote i said was "I really hate that for you."
I never said I hated you, just said I didn't relate to it bc the matchup that was ruined was the Aldo/Koch & it gave us Aldo/Edgar, a much better fight.
It doesn't matter now since both fights are gone. Just thought you'd like to know that no one hates you for having that opinion.

I have to say, I am curious about the average age of fighters in the UFC as a whole versus the average age of fighters injured this year (or over the past few years) during the lead-up to a fight.
Seems like the injured tend to be older (at least older in the sport, if not years), but that's just from the top of my head.
I may have to do some research...

Who do you think they should get to replace him? Werdum? He isn't scheduled, I don't think. He isn't injured is he? Cormier still has to fulfill his last fight for Strikeforce/Showtime before he moves to the UFC.

The only guys I can think of right now would be Werdum, Arlovski or maybe even Cheick Kongo. Hunt is apparently going to be out for some time and those are the only match ups in my mind that could be competitive.

I think Werdum makes the most since. He's not scheduled, both guys are ranked in the top 10, and IMO Werdum has been improving. Werdum is recognized as one of the most dangerous submission specialists in MMA. His striking is looking really good and this would be a serious test for both fighters.
If Werdum doesn't get the shot at Cormier maybe they've got bigger plans for him. Maybe TUF Brazil 2. Coaches JDS and Werdum.

Seeing Frank Mirrrrr get pummeled by a wrestler with a lot of power again would have been cool but I think Mirrrr was just a stepping stone for the match we really want to see. Jon Bones v Cormier.
