I was watching some WEC events that i have tivoed today and i came to this realization today.

I have never seen another color commentator break down the action like he does. He is constantly pointing out little details about what the fighters are doing and explains what is happening during tactical ground sessions. I feel like a JJ expert after watching a fight that he is commenting on. If a casual fan ever says that the ground game is boring, make them watch WEC.

You can tell he doesnt have a background in TV production but his knowledge and manner of delivering makes him the best commentator ive ever seen. When he retires he should take Joe Rogan's spot.

My vote is Bas Rutten based on how funny he is.

he says "gots" too much, worse grammar than my kid=a guy not meant for tv speaking roles, although ill give you the fact that hes knowledgable.

That just gives him personality. His accent is adoring to fans. Not Has irritating has joe rogan screaming.

Skill alone doesn't make you a good commentator. Royce did Bodogs show in Costa Rica. Needless to say he wasnt exactly awesome.

It takes a certain person to commentate. Most people shouldnt do it. Like Tazz in WWE, nobody ever liked him.

Rogan is just as knowledgeable as Mir and he is used to being in front of the camera. Rogan and Bas would be the best team. goldie isnt bad....just makes some crazy comments. Rogan is a black belt in JJ , he knows what hes talking about.

If I had to make up a new team I'd go with either Rogan or Stephen Quadros and Mauro Ranallo. Quad might have a little of a boring voice but he's quite knowledgable of the sport and he works quite well with whoever he's paired with (I know his work mostly from when he was with Bas in PRIDE).

They need a play by play guy though. I loved Mauro and Bas and Bas and Quadros. I like Bas better then Joe, I like that Bas at least made an attempt to be impartial, like when Chuck was there he tried to not support Rampage more then Chuck during the butt whoopin, Joe disgusted me during the Soko Machida fight.

I'd go with Rogan and Rutten. both knowledgeable, and I think their personalities would clash well. Would be some funny, yet intelligent commentary. Goldberg seems to hold Rogan back. Goldberg is corny and fake in my opinion.

I agree about Mirs commentating, but his in ring interviews are awful. Probably just needs time, as someone pointed out, he is still not used to being in front of the camera yet. Mirs commentating on the Mayhem/ Miura fight was awesome. They were doing some stuff that was not commonplace, and he broke it down well IMO.

Actually he has a Brown belt. But so does Mir. So i suppose their grappling knowledge is on the same level.

He also said on a talk show that he did full contact sparring but he stopped because he was afraid of getting brain injuries from it. The interview is on Youtube somewhere ill see if i can find it.

Joe Rogan on Jimmy Kimmel
He talks about all his combat sport expericne.

The "gots" thing drives me nuts. And for that, I couldn't pick Mir. What man says "gots" past the age of 14?

Uggghhh. Thank you for saying that.
I cringe every single time he says it. Seriously, how come no one has told him to stop saying "GOTS?"
He's a pro announcer and his insight into the fight is good but he has to knock that $hit off.

Quatross and Bas are the best of all time.

Rogan just repeats himself and seems like he is on drugs.
Frank Trigg is just boring and adds no excitement to the fights.
Goldberg is one of the worst, maybe he should just stick with wrestling.

Why can't Bas just comment on every fight? He always knows whats up.
However he just loves saying "I TOLD YOU SO!!!".

Which kinda pisses me off, but other than that he is a great announcer.

I like Rogan too, his bias was pretty obvious in the last couple of matches but hopefully he will knock that off.

You have to be joking. Don't get me wrong i think Frank Mir will be HW champ by the end of the year but as a commentator?!?!?!..... He will say over and over again that "He GOTS him in an armbar." or "He GOTS him in a choke." Come on dude rewatch that and then let me know what you think then.

I base my opinion off of how Mir covers the action of the fight, not on how he speaks. I really could care less. Even if Matt Serra and his man-shriek of a voice explained the fight the way Mir did, i wouldnt care. And ive honestly never noticed the "gots" thing before although, thats quite common depending on what part of the country you are and i hear it on a daily basis.

I agree that Mir knows his shit...but he needs an English class to put it all together.

Okay, after watching another event i will partially retract my statement. He clearly could improve. If a commentator could take his knowledge of MMA and ability to convey the intricate details of what is going on in the fight and combine it with a good speaking voice, good grammar, and some humor they would be the greatest possible commentator in MMA. But as it stands i'll take what he has against what other people are offering.
