What does Forrest have to do to beat Shogun (if possible)...?

Forrest Griffin is a great fighter however he was knocked out by the dean of mean. what do you all think forrest has to do to give shogun a run for his money?

i wanna c forrest victorious im go say he has better standup an has a good chance of pullin off an upset i do like shogun but he cant finish fights with kicks to a downed apponent in tha ufc so its interesting. i wanna say forrest wins tho.

Brain check, are you saying Forrest has better standup than Shogun, both are all around fighters, but Shogun has the best pure standup and striking in the MMA period. And this is coming from a UFC fan. Have you seen some of his fights, if you did, listen to what you threwdown on this chat. Some kind of freaky thing, like what happened to him in the only loss so far is the only way that he could lose, Shogun should finish this, only question is whether it goes more than a minute. I say yes.

Fights going to be No Contest Shogun's going to forget he can't kick a downed opponent.

So what was the reason that Machida isnt fighting Shogun?

Forrest has to do what he did againest Hector if he wants to beat shogun, and I mean only win by decision over shogun.

I think I might be the first person to answer the question...

IF he beats Shogun it would be in one of two ways IMO:
* Surviving the early onslaught on the feet, weathering some hard shots and landing his own later in the fight if/when Shogun tires
* Taking Shogun down and GnP...I've never seen Forrest fight that way but it might be the right strategy for this opponent

He's an underdog in this fight, but Forrest is quite good, probably a top 15 guy in the 205 class....there's no question he has a chance in a fight with any guy in his weight class.

shogun is by far from the BEST striker. Wandy and Anderson Silva have much better muay thai. Then there is Cro cop and Liddell. Shogun is not the best at any one thing he is just good at a lot of things.

If forrest is going to win he will keep his distance and use his much crisper boxing skills and pull a Sylvia (fight not to lose and not to win). As long as he avoids the clinch and being on his back i think he can ride it out to a decision win

Anyone reading this please watch Shogun vs. Rampage it only takes a few minutes. Do you think Anderson Silva could do that do Rampage, how come in 2 fights with him, Wanderlei and his superior Muay Thai could not do that, your off, Shogun is a better striker, Anderson I could see as being on par, and with Rua being in the higher wieght class, I go with him, if they are like what I said. I have not seen Wanderlei feint with one leg, do a 360 degree spin, and kick a high kick with the other leg, in about a second, Then come at him again with knees and kicks and spins in a rapid fire manner that I don't think anyone could defend once caught in the throws of it. There's a reason this guy is thinking of moving up and fighting Fedor, which I think would be a mistake, but you never know, Shogun is a special fighter once a generation kind. It took Wanderlei a career to accomplish what he did, Shogun is only 26, and has already people calling him amongst the best.

randy will help forrest come up with a good game plan, maybe teach him some gnp. but shogun will win unless forrests new teammate bonnar slips him something

its pretty easy to hurt someone when they are injured from their last fight.......that kick your are talking about was as ridiculous as salmons kick attempt on evans....not for mma....yes i do think Anderson Silva can do that Rampage if silva gained 20 pounds.

Why do people keep saying that? His last TWO fights were under US rules with no problems. Did you see the Overeem finish? He doesn't need to stomp. Diving punches work well too

thank you for clearing up the best strikers for the other poster. shogun is good, but not the top as far as striking goes. although i think forrest could win this on his feet(although the chances are slim), as long as he keeps good distance with the jab, and throws a knee at every takedown attempt from shogun. he'll have to pick his spots to throw combos against shogun but if he works the jab he has a shot to do it. if he puts shogun on his back he had better act fast because the longer its down the better the chance for a sweep or sub that could end it. forrest has a chance here, its just a really small one.

I think this will be the most vulnerable Shogun we've seen or will see in a long time. I think thats why Forrest took this fight. He will be nervous and he'll want to show the fans of only UFC why he is ranked ahead of the people in UFC. I think if anyone will beat him its now and i think Forrest is very gutsy in taking this fight but at the same time you beat Shogun you get catapulted straight to the title picture. I think if Forrest gets him down with some wrestling skills (mebbe from Randy Couture) he can perhaps GnP him to a victory or lay on him for 2 rounds.
I dont see that happening i see Forrest slugging it out and loosing due to knock out but if Shogun looses anytime soon this is the most logical time in my opinion.

to most of what you ars saying if forrest fights like his last fight moving away from shogun using the jap and leg kicks to try and pull out a decision he has a chance. If it turns into a brawl im not giving forrest much of a chance

if forrest can control the pace of the fight i think he'll definately have a great chance of winning. then again, thats a lot easier said than done.
