Fitch vs. Gono, or GSP?

The UFC is going to Canada in April and Dana said that he wants GSP to be on the card. After his fight against Hughes he shouldn't have any injuries so he should be healthy and able to fight in April. So I think instead of having Jon Fitch fight Akihiro Gono in March i think they should just have him wait another month and fight GSP. This is the only fight that makes sense for both of them. Fitch is on an incredible streak and beat Sanchez, and GSP has already beat every other top welterweight in the UFC with the exception of Serra. Maybe have Gono fight Marcus Davis, he hasn't fought since 75 in September so he might be good by March. What do you all think about this?

This is all assuming the Matt Serra isn't ready to fight by April, if he is then obviously him and GSP need to fight.

Well, I do agree that Fitch should fight GSP, but I want to freaking watch Gono on the main card and not on the prelims so we can watch DJ Gozma.


Id rather see Gono fight Chris Lytle, they both fought at 78 so it shouldnt be an isue.
And of course id rather see Fitch get to fight GSP, Hughes, or Karo. Just a fight where he can make a leap towards a title shot.

I think having GSP fight Fitch is perfect. I think Fitch is the most deserving of a title fight anyway. Of course if Serra is ready it will have to be him.

fitch or karo, karo has been in line longest imo.. but most importantly i want to see gono fight on the overcard too, so i really don't care who he fights as long as its on tv!!!

fitch has waited long enough, after this fight, gsp should take on Alves or Gono

if fitch gets by gono who should definately get gsp, the guy has waited long enough and if he beats gono that is another impressive victory to add to his resume. but right now gsp has to fight serra, its the only fight he can have right now.

One problem with what you said, Davis is fighting at ufc 80 in a few weeks bro against Jess Liaudin!

I say keep things how they are now, and Fitch gets the winner of GSP/Serra

I would like to see Gono in with another mid level contender first, maybe a Thiago Alves, or possibly in a fight with Swick if he does well at 170. I have faith in Gono, and think he would definitely have a good chance at a win against Fitch, Or any other man in the Division Save GSP, Who's just far too big, and a much more rounded striker with the kind of sprawl that can frustrate even a veteran like Gono into putting himself in bad spots.

Basically, I see it like this, Fitch and Karo have already been here, and have clearly earned their shot. Give it to them. The guys that have looked impressive recently and are building up resumes as contenders could all use a little work, and the time to train and squeeze in another fight or two should pay dividends when it's time to jump into the ring with one of the top guys.

Does anyone know what the time table for Serra's recovery is?

I would guess GSP would be put on the shelf until Serra is ready to fight again.

Unfortunately for Karo and Fitch, that either means a long lay off for one of them waiting for the winner of the Serra/GSP fight or they have to endure some more fights to get their shot.

As for who deserves it more, Fitch or Karo..... IMO, Fitch is the better fighter but Karo probably should get the shot first.

In my perfect world, this is how the welterweight title picture in 2008 would look like..... 1) GSP vs. Serra hopefully happens in April
2) Karo has a lay off and gets his shot in July or August
3) Fitch beats Gono and he waits on winner of GSP/Serra vs. Karo - Fitch
might have to wait until late 2008 for his chance at the title.

If Serra isn't ready by April Dana will probably strip him of the title.

The only problem with that is we don;t know how long that could be. It would be better for Fitch to fight before his title fight so he is not rusty.

in april gsp will fight serra and if not karo the heat will finally get his title shot against gsp

Yea I think that if Serra isn't better by then it should either be Karo or Fitch. I'd prefer if Fitch got it because he's undefeated in the UFC and has waited a long time. But Karo has some impressive wins and has also waited a really long time. It's a tough decision but I'm sure one of these guys will get it. The one of them that doesn't get the shot should fight Kos. That would be cool.

the ufc is crazy for giving fitch another fight but he will win so i'm ok with it, i just think he should have gotten the title shot instead of hughes

I agree.. I eventually would like to see Fitch vs GSP but i'd prefer it to be for the title.. GSP must fight Serra next, and if Fitch gets past GSP then perhaps Fitch vs GSP or Fitch vs Karo for the #1 contenders spot.

The WW division is going to be crazy in 2008, my boy GSP is gonna beat the division senseless.

I think it's a good idea , provided of course that Serra can't compete. " IF" , and despite their last fight I think it's a big if, Serra wins again imagine the hilarity that would ensue. It wouldn't be right for the UFC to give Hughes a title shot after his commanding loss to GSP. The UFC would have wasted a whole season of TUF building a fight that wouldn't happen, at least not then, if ever . Personally I am pulling for GSP to win, then Hughes to beat Serra, and go out a winner. Still, with all the monkey wrenches that have been thrown into the UFC's plans by losses that were considered upsets, this would take the cake IMO.

As a Jon Fitch fan...

A fight with GSP worries me.

All I know for certain for MMA in this the New Years is as follows:

1. If Serra beats Georges again I will Laugh so hard I pass out

2. If Akihiro Gono beats John Fitch I'm totally sold on him dropping to 170 and rooting for him to step out of the sport with a belt.

Other than that's it all up in the air, not just in the uFC but Japan as well, and we are all in for another crazy year.

I second Fitch vs. Karo for the #1 spot. Crazy division.
