Just thought I would tell you guys I got to go to my first submission grappling class today. Though I watched, I am really stoked to begin learning some basic stuff. It looks like I am obviously going to be a smaller guy there (150 lbs) but the challenge is what makes me better i guess. Anyways, just thought I would make a topic about it. lol it seems like a big thing for me.

Congrats! Stick with it, put a lot of effort into it and before long you'll know exactly what you're doing. You'll be tapping out 200 lb'ers in short order.

True big advantage you'll see when you go against someone in your weight class they will not seem heavy in fat light and in most cases will not see as strong.. though they may seem quicker then what your used to alot of us big guys are not always very quick.. there are exceptions... but regardless good luck..

gi or no gi?
if gi, be a good training partner and wash your gi on a regular basis. No one wants to roll with the new guy in the stinky gear. If no gi wash your arse on a regular basis then refer to last sentence.
Keep your mouth shut for the first couple of months and absorb as much as you can.

GReat advice.. I know it sounds simple.. but man... I have seen people asked not to come back to classes untilthey washed thier gi... wash it at least once a week... more if you sweat alot.. also not sure if it hold in Brazilian Jits or not.. but in tradational Japanese Arts your not supposed to wash your Obi (Belt)

No belt washing.
Let the white belt get as dirty/used/broken in as possible.
all the replies are good.. like a few people said wrestling with bigger guys give you an advantage to tournaments, stuff like that. because when you wrestle someone your own weight it will feel like nothing.
