We haven't had a thread like this for a long time, and theres plenty of new folks kicking it on the site, so what do you guys have for firearms? Do you CCW? If so, what? Planning on buying anything new in the future?

I've got:

A Universal M1 Carbine
A Sig P229 in .40 cal (carry gun)
A Beretta Tomcat in .32acp (back-up carry gun)
A S&W 629 Classic with a 6 1/2" barrel in .44 mag

Once I'm not so broke, I'm probably picking up a lever action rifle in .22 mag for varmit hunting and then a bolt action .308 or 30-06 for elk hunting.

I've fired the XD45, and while it was nice, I didn't like the balance on it as the rounds are expended. Then again if I could think of a better way to pack 15 rounds of .45acp into a handgun, I'd probably be rich. I'm not sure if the compact would be any different though, as I was firing the full sized model.

And for the record, I'm jealous about the RRA M4. Its pricey, but you get what you pay for from what I've heard about their firearms.

.308 is kinda light for Elk I would go for 7mm 30-06 or 300 mag.

Most of the neighbors out West have 7mm or 30-06. .308s are easy to find though, so I figured I'd keep my options open if I run into one at a yard sale or something. With high-end match grade ammo I don't think I'd have a problem taking an elk with a .308.

My other option is grabbing an M1 Garand from the CMP.

Unfortunately my wish list is FAR larger than my "collection" right now, but hopefully Santa will be nice this year

At the moment I own a Colt Delta Elite 10mm which is nigh-impossible to get ammo for now (damn shame too, it was my favorite auto pistol cartridge).

454 Casull (YES, it hurts to shoot!).

Mossberg 500 Field

and a good ole Winchester 30-30.

Ruger Mini-30 w/ synth. folding stock.

I've had a hard-on for a Steyr Mannlicher for years now, prefferably an SSG 04,which is why I haven't bought a new rifle in a while (they cost a LOT!).

Awesome! Thanks Svar, got 4 boxes of the 180 gr FMJs on order as we speak!

Its good quality stuff too. Are you using FMJs for self-defense or target shooting?
We_Todd_Did
8/27/07 2:36:35AM
Target shooting, of course.I already have 2 boxes of the 200 gr controlled expansion for self-defense.10mm is way too hot of a round to risk using FMJs and hitting my family/neighbors through the walls in the process.I just love practicing with the long, flat trajectory you get from this round.

Awesome, just making sure you knew what a 10mm FMJ was capable of. Not everyone realizes handgun bullets can and will punch right through a person. I remember reading a story from a cop who was mystified why he couldn't hit an armed robber in a shootout, but when the guy stumbled off into a backroom, he noticed the blood and realized the rounds were punching through his body and blowing up bottles behind him, making him think he had missed.

I carry FMJs in my Sig, but thats because its my under-the-counter gun at work and I might need it to penetrate hard cover like shelves, windows, etc.

If I recall correctly, he was firing a .357mag, so its not that amazing. They're also one of the few rounds that will reliably penetrate a windshield.

I have a Sig 228 9mm, because I like the compactness of it

I also have a 229 for dropping power (.45)

A Mossberg 12 gauge security combo modified for the what the **** in the middle of the night, you need to shoot everything and not miss

and my paranoid weapon

(For if the Chinese invade etc)

a totally illegal .50 cal that I built myself.

NOTICE: I do not condone owning illegal firearms (in public) .

Kissmyballz: Keep your .50 cal in two pieces. Technically its not an illegal firearm unless its assembled. There was actually a dude selling a "box of parts" for $2,000 on the internet for awhile. You could do whatever you wanted with these boxes of parts, like, for instance, assemble them into a fully functioning AR-15. It wasn't a gun though because it was in multiple parts, so it didn't have to have a serial number or be registered anywhere unless you assembled it into an assault rifle. The ATF apparently didn't think it was as funny as I did.

Thanks for the heads up. Sorry. I forgot to say I'm way ahead of ya there.

Like I said though. If I tune to CNN and find the goddamn CHinese are invading, I'm gonna put that SOB together pretty ******* quick.

LOL

BTW, I'm much better with pistols and not as good with rifles. SO if any of you have nice suggestions about good rifles that are easy to get a hold of legally at most any gun shops? I'd appreciate it.

I'm with ya. Like my father says, "They'll find my body on top of a mountain of casings."

As for the rifle, being as you're in Cali, you can't get many of the better ones. I'd keep an eye out for yard sales out in the sticks around there (not sure where you're at in Cali, so that might be kind of hard), and see if you can pick up an AR-15, or more realistically, a Mini-14, Mini-30, SKS, AK-47, M-1 Garand or M-1 Carbine. They're all banned in Cali as far as I know, but they're all super dependable rifles, and with the exception of the M-1 Carbine, they all use easy to come by ammo. Plus the Chinese use SKS's, so you can use their ammo against them.

As for legally owned rifles in Cali, if you can't get anything semi-auto, your next option is a nice bolt action. Once you get used to them, they can be almost as fast as semi-autos (while making accurate shots that is), and are inherently more accurate than a semi-auto. Remingtons are probably the top of the heap as far as reasonable, reliable rifles. Old Winchesters are also fantastic, although the new ones have a less than stellar reputation.

The main thing is to practice like the Chinese will be knocking on your door the next day.

just a little SW .38 special and a .38 back-up gun. More concerned with concealment than anything.

Svartorm, if you could own one rifle what would it be? What would you recommend for a rifle in the $800-$1,000 range on a rifle? What in a shotgun? Oh, I live in PA, so our gun laws aren't too bad.
Svartorm

Depends on what you want it the rifle and shotgun for.

Hunting, home defense, or both?

Also, if its for home defense, who is going to be using it, and do you live in an apartment, condo, suburb or rural enviornment.
