Fedor slams UFN 14 card

From the OC Register:
Here is what Fedor said about the UFC putting on a show the same night to counter-program against Affliction:
“M-1 Global and Affliction have come together to make one of the best MMA cards in the history of the sport. So compared to the card that is going on the same day, it doesn’t really compare at all. I don’t think it is really going to make that much of a difference. I’m confident our fans, the MMA fans, are going to understand that and realize the difference between the two shows.”

Well it could come down to money. Who wants free or who wants to pay for ppv. Tell you what most people would say free or paying. I know im going with UFC because i dont have money to spend.

Meh.
I want to see Fedor/Sylvia like anybody else. But I'm not buying the whole thing for one fight. So UFC it is.

My thoughts exactly. I also wouldn't mind seeing AA

i don't think he slammed the ufc. all he said was that the affliction card is one of the best cards ever put together. it would be hard to disagree with that. the ufc card does not even come close to the affliction card. i will watch the ufc event and download the affliction event the next day illegally

Here is the best quote of the entire article.
“I think it’s an empty conversation in the sense that I don’t feel like I have any rivalries or conflicts with any fighters regardless of what organization they come in. I have a great deal of respect for all fighters and I don’t think it really matters where the fighter comes from. I don’t have any animosity or rivalry towards anybody regardless of their connections.”
If only more fighters were like this.

I don't particularly care about one promotion trying to cancel out another. All I know is that I will work 9am to a little past midnight. Have a few over to watch a delayed Affliction. Kick them out and watch UFC then Dream. Hoping to be in bed by 8am! Thank God the wife and kids are going away this weekend.

With the price of gas and almost everything else going up, the bottom line for most people is Free Vs. Not Free. And no matter how good a card is most people will go with free. In my opinion, or course.

You guys are crazy. Affliction card is going to be sick. Barnett vs Rizzo, AA vs Rothwell, Sylvia vs Fedor, Those 3 fights will be worth it. Actually, Fedor kicking the shizzzat out of Tim Sylvia = Priceless. Watch a former UFC champ, get tossed around like a sissy will be worth the ppv alone.

To all those who say they can't afford the Affliction PPV.... Get a job! Take your beer cans back! Do whatever it takes to support MMA.
I mean seriously... times have to be pretty freakin' tough to not be able to pay $50 once a month. I don't hear any of this crap when UFC does PPV.

I think you're missing the point. If the Affliction was the only card on, yeah, most people would buy it. But given the option for a free card, people re-think their options.
Not that I'm complaining cause I'll enjoy watching it after Affliction goes off but the UFC put together an exciting card as opposed to a competitive one. With the exception of France v Edgar. But you could also knock Affliction's competitiveness to a lesser extent. HeIIuva MMA weekend w/ Dream.5 as well.

Well I disagree with some as this being the best MMA event ever. I think there has been better shows put on by Pride and the UFC. Now don't get me wrong it looks to be good but the best ever - NO. Also to call it the best show ever before it has even happened is little crazy if you ask me. You never know how fights will turn out so for all we known this show could end up being a flop. So before we or anyone else starts calling it the best show ever lets see how it turns out.
Now my take on the card is that its focus is mainly on HWs which I like to watch fight but I like LHWs, WWs, and LWs fights much more. But that's just me to each their own. I also think lot of the fights are very lopsided. But will just have to wait and see how things go.

sorry guys, the best event ever can't have 9 underdogs out of 11 fights. not really that competitive.
don't get me wrong, i looks good and i am definitely going to watch it...but...to say this is the best card ever is lying to yourself tbh.

I think people are saying its best ever just cuase of the people on it, not seeing them for so long etc. I will still be supporting the card, I just hope more people do so. That way trumph will stay in longer to make more cards happen. ^_^ Which makes us all happy right ^^?

I'm not going to soley watch for Fedor.I am going to watch for Barnett,AA,Alex,Vitor, etc.
On paper,it's without a doubt a star studded event for the sport, but we will just have to see how they play out.
I can't believe the people saying "I'm going to steal this because I don't feel like paying for it." or "I'm not paying to see one fight". Are you joking? One fight? I guess barnett and rizzo, arlovski and rothwell, and all of the other great fights on the card are not worth watching.
You don't have 10 dollars to go to a bar to watch it? Or any friends who would split the cost of a PPV? Nonsense. It's simply not true. I doubt very highly that anyone around here with a computer and internet couldn't find 10 dollars.
The simple fact is that you don't want to pay for it, not that you can't. So you will steal from the athletes and organizations that bust their asses to entertain you. That's garbage IMO. That's a garbage attitude. I'm pretty broke myself, but guess what? I can find 10 bucks to support the best sport in the world and the greatest athletes, because it's worth it and quite frankly this is a growing sport with underpaid athletes that needs the support more than any.
That bothers me. You shouldn't watch it at all if that's you attitude. You don't deserve this great night of fights if you're just going to steal it because you're too cheap or you don't care. Garbage.

This is exactly what the UFC wanted.
It makes me puke really, the UFC are going out their way to monopolise the sport with this stunt.

Hey man - I agree with most of your point, but I don't understand how you reckon paying $10 to watch it in a bar will benefit the sport?

are you kidding me? they just dont want fans to get the wrong idea that the affliction card even means anything to anybody's rankings and isn't hard to see that a card with 10 out of 11 fights have a heavy underdog is a waste of money. no bars around here are showing it because they dont care what this clothing company does, especially buying a bunch of no name, has beens, throwbacks and losers from all kinds of organizations. think about it kids, there are maybe two guys who actually matter on this card and they're both fighting fat, slow, nobodys. i dont know what i hate more, affliction or elitexc, both are just as terrible for the sport and will be drowned, but not soon enough. fedor, i look forward to watching you're one rounder on the world wide web, unless of course they're taking the pride route and paying for how long the fight should be before fedor finishes big tim, the washup.

Yeah, the bars in my area that normally get the UFCs will not be having the Affliction card.
So, the argument of 10 bucks at a bar doesn't work for me. Plus, I don't think I have ever been to a bar in my life and only spent 10 bucks (a Saturday night nonetheless).
If I go to a bar with my wife to watch the fights, I will end up spending more than if I would have just bought the PPV, and I don't think that would support the fighters any more than just trying to find them on youtube over the next week or so.

Real MMA fans and figthers will watch the (and perhaps pay for) the Affliction card. Whether it be at home or at a bar. and PVR / Tape the Spike card.
un-informed part time fans will be watching the easy to follow, media drive UFC card. And undoubted do not really have an apprectiation for MMA.
I am a huge UFC fan but allowing UFC to crush the only viable competition is just bad for the sport.

Bars that normally play UFC will save the $5000 (or whatever the fee is) and play the free UFC show instead. They probably have also not even heard of this Affliction show.
That said, my friends and I are ordering the show and DVRing the UFC fight night, to be watched immediately after the PPV ends.
Going to be a late night.
first off going to a bar to see it is supporting the athletes because the bar has to pay for the ppv and for a license to show them. You're giving the money to them indirectly, the same way that when you buy a PPV at home you're giving your money directly to the cable company, NOT to the UFC. They then get a portion of what you paid the cable company.
If you're paying to see the fights you're supporting the athletes, it doesn't matter if it's in a bar or at your house.
Second, no one forces you to drink and eat at the bar, that has absolutely nothing to do with the fight, that's your choice, and if you have the money to do that then the initial point of going to a bar because the admission is cheaper really doesn't apply to you at all and the point is moot anyway.
The point is people have to money to see it but they're going to steal it.
That's all. That's the bottom line. Make all the excuses you want, you're saying flat out that you're going to steal it because you're too cheap. It's nonsense. I don't walk into a store and steal a bunch of crap off of the shelf because I don't feel like paying for it. None of your excuses will change that simple fact. I don't see how a person can consider themselves a fan if they're willing to steal from the people that are entertaining them. If I like a band I buy their music, if I like a movie I pay to see it, if I like a sport I pay to see it. If you don't do the same you're stealing. Simple.
Can you argue against that?
Yeah Fedor. I'm sure this event won't affect Affliction ratings at all.

I completely agree with this comment. You people act like this is a huge dent out of your monthly pay. Give me a break, it's a terrible excuse to not watch the most UFC competitive event since Pride. I'm puzzled by most of the remarks on this forum.

Plenty of bars are showing the card. I'd be willing to bet that most of the people saying it isn't being shown didn't bother to look around at all other than maybe asking the one bar that they go to regularly. I assumed that it wouldn't be shown at any bars initially but then guess what? I actually ASKED and 2 of the first 3 places I asked were showing it.
You can make all of the excuses you want guys, it's called stealing. There's no way around it. You're going to steal, you just don't want to admit it to yourselves or anyone else so you'll dance around with excuses and try to pretend like you have no choice or you couldn't possibly gather together enough for this card even though you've probably paid for the majority of the UFC cards you've seen.
Keep your excuses and just admit that you're making a conscious decision to steal from the athletes and the sport that you love so much that you come to this website to discuss. You can't have it both ways. Either you're stealing or you're not. It's not the bar's fault, or your wallet's fault, it's your choice.

I called all the local spots that show UFC ppvs, and none are showing Affliction. Heck, none have even heard of it!
I can't believe so many mma "fans" are willing to miss this card. Do you guys even recognize some of the names on this card? Best MMA fight card ever? Yes, probably. At the very least, its in the top 3 fight cards of all time.
Fedor vs Tim will answer SO MANY questions. Really, think about it. Fedor has long been considered the #1 fighter. Randy vs Fedor may never happen, but this IS going to happen. If Tim beats Fedor, in many people's eyes that would mean that Randy would be ranked higher than Fedor. If Fedor finishes Tim when Randy took him to a decision, that could mean something entirely different. MMA math is stupid and rarely works out, but it does make a good measuring stick. And in this situation where the biggest MMA match of all time (Randy vs Fedor) might possibly never happen, this is the next best thing.
The #1 P4P and HW fighter in all of MMA is finally getting a true test against a proven multiple time UFC HW champion, and you're not going to watch?
That I just can't understand.

The guy I talked to yesterday said they pay a flat $1000 per UFC PPV to show them in his bar. Just FYI.
