In the ever expanding "quest for the best" ADCC Championships is proud to announce that two of the World’s top fighters have agreed to compete in the 2009 ADCC event. ADCC is proud to announce that Pride and Affliciton Champion Fedor Emelianenko, widely considered the World’s best fighter and 2008 Dream Middleweight Champion Gregard Mousassi are set to compete in ADCC 2009. ADCC Europe President Marko Leistén confirmed the fighter’s presence after a meeting with the two fighters manager Aby Echteld in Holland 8th November.

Fedor Emelianenko, after conquering the World of MMA, wants to show the World he is also the best Submission Grappler in the World. Fedor want to make history and expand on the pioneer spirit of what Mark Kerr did in the late 90's when he was the Champion of Pride and became the weight and Absolute Champion of ADCC and went on to defend his title in the Superfights for 2 editions.

Mousassi, the winner of the 2008 Dream Middleweight Grand Prix where he defeated former World ABJJ Absolute and ADCC middleweight Champion Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza in the final, also wants to test his ground skills against the top names in Submission Grappling. This sets up some humongous possible match-ups such as a re-match with "Jacare" or facing current ADCC Middleweight Champion and rising U.F.C. star Demian Maia.

Awesome, I'm really interested to see just how well both guys can do against the elite grapplers. Fedor I think will do very well, and Gegard I'm not so sure about. While Gegard is really dangerous off his back (especially with his long-limbed legs) I think his best asset is his striking and being well rounded. I just don't think he's going to be able to had with the best pure grapplers.

yea its gonna be hard for Mousasi, with the possibilities of having to face the likes of Jacare and Maia, he is gonna have a hard time.

Very interested in how Fedor will do. I think he'll to well, if he looses it'll probably be on points.

It will be interesting to see Fedor straight up grapple against a lot of these guys. He's got a ton of grappling skill obviously, but a lot of times in MMA he sets up his subs with GnP. So it will be really interesting to see him w/o that ability.

I'm pretty new to the ADCC scene. Is there anywhere to watch this stuff?

I think Fedor will win his division easily.

I will put money right now on the fact that Fedor doesn't compete.

Every year they claim to have all of these big names, and every year half of them don't show. 2007 was a joke, every big name they touted early in the year ended up bailing.

Last year they had it stream live on ProElite's website. Dunno about this year. Sherdog would be a good fit since they do live streams of MMA shows these days..

Me too. Any help would be apreciated.

Also, would Maia be allowed to compete now that he's signed to the UFC ?

Yes the UFC does surprisingly allow fighters to compete at the ADCC, just as they allow their fighters to compete in any other grappling tournament, as long as it doesn't involve strikes.

BTW- I'm calling Jacare taking his division right now. I think next year will be a great year all around for him. Kind of like '08 was the year of the Guida
