Fedor Emelianenko vs. Andrei Arlovski On January Affliction Show

MMARated.com has learned that WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko will face Andrei Arlovski at the upcoming Affliction show tentatively scheduled for January 24th in Anaheim, Calif.

Affliction Entertainment VP Tom Atencio confirmed the news with us earlier today.

Atencio also said that the promotion will officially announce the date, location and main fights on the card sometime next week and that it will be an MMA-only card but still co-promoted with Golden Boy Promotions.

"We sat down with them and couldn't come up with a main event boxing match that everyone wanted," Atenco said.

Originally, it was announced that the January show would be a mixed boxing/MMA event.

Affliction's second pay-per-view show entitled "Day of Reckoning" was supposed to occur tomorrow but was cancelled last month after reported poor ticket sales at the Thomas & Center in Las Vegas. Atencio did mention that January's show will also be called "Day of Reckoning" and will be "more stacked" than its original offering.

Last week, Arlovski defeated Roy Nelson at EliteXC: Stand Heat while Emelianenko last fought in July on the first-ever Affliction show making quick work of former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia.



Lets hope AA lasts longer than Sylvia...

Well my hopes are up. As long as AA lands some good shots and maybe cuts him before he's finished, I'll be satisfied. I love watching Fedor dominate.

I really wanna see arlovski KTFO fedor, but i just cant imagine fedor losing. its a diffcult concept to grasp. I think if AA can keep the fight standing he MIGHT be able to get a KO or more likley a SD. My final decision Is fedor by sub.

Why would you want to see Fedor get Knocked out, he's never Talked Smack or done anything wrong is his Fighting Career and he's been Honorable and AA would get tagged of the Feet because Fedor is a better all around Stand Up Fighter. I doubt AA could have went 3 Rounds with the old Cro Cop without getting Knocked out

I'm glad that it isn't going to be an mma/boxing co-promotion event. Thank God!! Boxing would've took away from the number of mma fights we see on ppv. Boxing events usually take a long time, and although I like boxing, I prefer mma. I love Ozzy, have seen both him and Black Sabbath perform several times, but I could care less that he's going to perform. To me, that just takes times from the ppv when they could be showing a fight, though in between fights I guess it doesn't take much time. That is if Ozzy's still going to perform there.

I just can't picture Fedor losing, not to AA anyway. The only way AA would have a chance is to KO Fedor, which I definately don't see happening. I got Fedor by GnP TKO/ref stoppage. I'm glad this is happening though. I've wanted to see these 2 SAMBO guys fight for a long time.

Its so cool to see these fights now The AA v Fedor , TIM v Nog, Tim v Fedor, Wandy v Chuck All these fights we have wanted to see for so long its really cool. Oh yeah Dan Henderson v Rich Franklin. Come on who didn't want to see that in like 04-05?

Glad to see Fedor get another big fight. I could see Andrei winning. I really don't think he will since Fedor's stand up is so good he's getting the biggest words of endorsment I've ever heard from Hoost. I love Fedor for his ability and the fact that he is the most humble guy in the entire world. I don't ever want to see him lose because people will talk shit(Dana) and Fedor won't say anything back.

As much as i want AA to win Fedor is going to be too much in the clinch and on the ground. Fedor by sub after rocking AA ala Fedor vs Sylvia

hilarious, i cant believe you of all people wrote that

seriously though, even if AA drops fedor, the guy has great awareness when hes been rocked(which hasnt been often) and always seems to pull the sub out of his ass(ie: hunt, randleman). its almost impossible for me to imagine him being KOed clean with one punch or even a flurry, so at this point i just cant see him losing, nor do i want to see that, hes just such a seemingly good guy that id hate to see him go down to anyone, even CC. fedor is an athlete that i think could fit the bill as a role model which everyone tries to pin on athletes from all sports. if my kid were to choose him as the guy he wants to emulate rather than most athletes or people in the public eye for that matter, i would be a very proud papa indeed. ok these nuts are getting sweaty from me hanging on so tight, time to let go.

Seriously though Fedor is a beast and I think it'll be a war. Andrei's confidence is at a all time high and if anyone can dethrone Fedor is my man Andrei.

Someone like Barnett. IMO Barnett and Nog are the ones with the best chance. I've said it a million times but Arlovski is probably the guy (of the HW contenders that is) with the least chance to pull it off because they're both sambo practitioners and I don't think Arlovski brings anything to the table stylistically that gives him an edge.

People say he has better hands but again I disagree. Boxing and MMA striking are totally different things. This is why I think combat sambo is the best possible discipline to transition to MMA and the reason Fedor is so far ahead of everyone. Combat Sambo is one of the only martial arts that balances striking, wrestling and submissions as opposed to focusing on just one of them. Fedor was practicing MMA before MMA was a sport. Combat Sambo and MMA are HIGHLY similar.

I'm willing to bet that Fedor's boxing is entirely different from his MMA/Sambo striking because he realizes they are different things and that, as a result, they need to be dealt with differently. I'm also willing to bet that his boxing is better than Andrei's but that it wouldn't become apparent unless they were in a boxing match as opposed to an MMA match.

I have no real opinion on this fight when it comes to who will win.....

Hopefully one of these guys can live up to the hype and begin to earn me as a fan......

This fight should end up being a all out war that goes most of the distance, but I see it ending in the first or second rounds, Its about time the heavtweight division gives us a show, I don't want to look back and think that Lesnar was the best thing to happen in the heavyweight division in 09

This has been a dream fight of mine for a long time. I hope AA can make it a war. Andrei has been one of my favorite fighters and to see him upset Fedor would be great. War "The Pitbull

This fight is about 4-5 years over due,but I'm glad to see it. the results will be the same though....fedor wins and adds another big name to the resume' of the best heavyweight ever!

This PPV in January will make up for UFC 93 and it's low average card that month.
