Please read b4 u vote.
Ok so me and my friend were talking about MMA and of coarse the subject of Fedor came up. Now my friend like most people believes Fedor is the best MMA in the world. I've been watching MMA for a long time and at first i thought a long the same lines however I've thought about it some more and i think Fedor's reputation is 50% skill 50% Hype. In our argument we began comparing what Fedor's done to some of the things Matt Hughes has done (I chose Matt Hughes b/c he's the fighter i know the most about). and when we laid it all out i just can't by into the Hype of Fedor. I believe alot of his opponents are big name fighters but not exactly great fighters. at least not at the time they fought him. Now this isn't supposed to be a Matt Hughes VS Fedor thing or anything like that i just want to know if u really look at everything Fedor's done, Everyone he's fought and the time in their career when they fought Fedor is he really #1. Theres no Question Fedor is a Great fighter but i truly believe that most of the fighters he fought were over hyped and that he himself is not the #1 fighter in the world but rather a great fighter who is extremely over hyped. now when u cast your vote don't ask yourself is Fedor a great fighter because he is but ask your Self is he Truly THE #1 fighter In the World

He is the best, but I don't consider him truly #1 until he beats Randy Couture. So for now my vote is no.

But for all intents and purposes, right now, Fedor is the #1 fighter in the world.

Now after all of that who would you say is the # 1 fighter in the world? I Think Fedor is but I also feel if hasn't fought in the UFC by Feb. Its time we move on and pick a new p4p you have to fight the best to be the best and he is not doing that right now.

I really don't know who is the best in the world right now. It's tough to say for sure that any one person is better then every other fighter in MMA. i just think that Fedor is over hyped and i don't consider him the best fighter in MMA today

Good question. I find that a lot of people say Fedor isn't #1 but don't state the name of the fighter they believe to be #1.
Many of the arguements stated in the first post could be used against any top fighter.
I'm almost at the point where I can't pick a
bona fide number one fighter, even in a given weight class.

I say he is, for now. His position at #1 is at risk due to inactivity. I, like a lot of people, have been reluctant to drop him in my rankings, but if he signs with basically anyone other than the UFC, I don't see how I can keep him at #1.
He needs to fight Cro Cop again. He needs to fight Nogueira in a cage. He needs to fight Couture, and Arlovski, and Sylvia, and Vera, and Kongo, and he also needs to fight Barnett. I think he'd be the favorite over all of those guys, but being the favorite doesn't mean anything by itself.

I don't consider randy #2 but I think that would seal his mma stature. I think Fedor's #1, but I agree with everyone else, if people say fedor isn't they should say who is. I don't think randy is because he's lost to barney(say what you want a loss is a loss and ppl beat roid freaks all the time ie:fedor beating randleman and coleman) ricco, chuck twice, I guess I don't see an argument for him. I think the closest would be GSP, or shogun. Both of whom I think are young enough to over take fedor's legend. If GSP keeps his head right and shogun adapts to the cage they will both be known as the best of all time in their div, as will fedor.

Like I said if he dosn't fight soon then he is going to lose my vote especially if Shogun beats Forest and Rampage and then has a title defense and we still don;t hear from Fedor then thats when the switch will happen. It's hard to go debate Fedor really who hasn't he beat other than Randy?
So I guess here is an MMAth quiz for all of you.
Let's say Randy and Nog fight in the UFC and Nog destroys Randy. We all know that Nog was beaten (literally) by Fedor twice in Pride. Would any of you Fedor nay sayers change your stance on him being #1 or not?

I think as a top fighter Fedor has been consistantly the best.He avenged his only lost and every time I watch him fight,he seems to have a very solid game going in.I would still consider him number 1 for now,but for him to stay on top I belive he would need to go to UFC and make a very convincing run.
Personaly,I don't belive Fedor has to go undefeafted in the UFC to keep a number one posistion.I think it's very likely he could lose on a decision or due to a cut.But if he can keep these the only two ways to beat him,I consider that next to unstopable.

fedor has earned his #1 status more than anyone else right now but the inactivity is going to hurt that. shogun is the next most likely candidate IMO. its bout staying ahead of the competition and proving yourself everytime u step into the fight. if nog beats randy then i would rank him ahead of fedor if fedor hasnt fought a top ten fighter by that time. i dont care if he beat him twice back then, i want proof that he can beat him

I think he is the best mixed martial artest in the world as of right now. However that will change if he doesn't come to the UFC. I'd give him about 4-6 more months to fight again before we can strip his title of best current P4P fighter. The MMA world needs him to fight Randy, and time is a factor.

Yes...end of story.
In official rankings you might have to think about giving it to Shogun or even Page with the way he is fighting lately...I of course would throw A. Silva and GSP in the mix, but the question is "Is he the best Mixed Martial Artist in the world"
Even when you are not fighting, it does not change the fact that you are the most complete fighter in the world, and he has proven to be that every time he steps in the ring, so yes he is.

I'm not a nay-sayer, but I think his inactivity has to be entered into the MMAth equation eventually. Nogueira and Couture won't fight before February. If Fedor hasn't fought and won by then, he might forfeit his position in my rankings.

I have to disagree if he is not fighting the best then he isn't stepping into the ring and proving he is the best. That would be like saying Ali is still the best Boxer alive becuase when he did box his skills were the best.

Remain undefeated until he retires? He's 30. With guys like Randy Couture still on top of his game at 40+, Fedor should be around for a while. Staying undefeated that long will be quite a task and I don't think he can do it. But, if he is going to lose a fight, it will probably be his first fight in the UFC adjusting to the cage.

Diffently he is Fedor would pick Couture up and slam him like nothing he is a Sambo grand champ and he can beat the impossible not like Couture is one of my favorite fighters but seriously if he was younger he would whoop Fedor Fedor is the fastest big guy I have ever seen and as far as it goes with Vera you can diffently take him out of Fedors league Gonzaga would be a test for him but he would walk though him no question

I've never really liked Fedor. I don't know why and I'm not arguing that he's one of the top mixed martial artists, but I don't think I'd put him at number one. I know it's been said over and over in this thread but the inactivity is really an issue for me. Other guys are fighting and proving themselves and he needs to keep fighting too or it's just gonna get worse.

:

When I was watching the Gonzaga fight I thought Couture looked better than I have ever seen him. The elbows he was throwing were ridiculously fast for a guy his age, and his standup is as good as ever.

It's hard to say. Their's no doubt he is one of the greatest, but until I see him in the cage and dominate, I'm not going to be 100% on it. Everyone thought Cro-Cop would dominate, but look at him?

Two totally different fighters, and one isn't taking fighting very seriously anymore, he also has a ton more pro fights.

Theres no doubt that Fedor is overhyped. The man's a hell of a fighter, but he is still overhyped, i dont see what fuss is all about. He is a top heavyweight no doubt about it, but to put him on another level is wrong. I think Couture would beat him, i think Arlovski would beat him, i think Big Tim would beat him,Of course on anyday he could beat either one of them. Cro Cop showed he was on his level in the first fight. He would struggle with Vera, Gonzaga. Theres so many guys he has to face before you really can call him the best fighter in the world.
Is this really that impressive.........honestly....and take into consideration the way Cro Cop and Big Nog stuggled in the Octagon

I can't take additudes like this. Have you seen any of Mirko's or Nog's fights? Nog has fought herring 3 times, and can you honestly say that looks like Mirko Cro Cop in there? I hope you say no to that.
