LAS VEGAS – WEC standout turned UFC fighter Josh Grispi (14-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) may not get a chance to realize a title opportunity that slipped through his fingers with the injury of featherweight champ Jose Aldo (18-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC).

UFC president Dana White said today that Grispi is not guaranteed a fight with Aldo if he's victorious Saturday at UFC 125 against fellow octagon newcomer Dustin Poirier.

"He's in the mix, though," White said.

i'm interested in who the ufc has lined up for aldo (cause it sounds like they do) there's some established 155ers who could make the drop. 2011 should prove to be an interesting year for the ufc.

Dana not giving grispi number one contender is a insult
The guy beat mark hominick
He is the clear cut number one contender
If he is not guarenteed a title shot then why the hell would u have him
Face jose aldo in the first place ??

My sentiments exactly. How can you pass up Grispi if he is victorious this weekend, when he was already set to fight the Champion? I say that should put a rush job on his title fight.

The ONLY way I can see him getting passed over is if someone like BJ Penn or Sean Sherk or Ken Flo dropped to 145. I think Ken Flo would be most likely and able to drop to 145.

Even if that were the case, Grispi should be the first man up for the title shot, provided he is victorious on the first.

That's garbage if Grispi wins and doesn't get his title shot. He was slated to get it and just because Aldo gets hurt he might not get one now? That's the biggest bunch of **** ever. Dana had better have a serious ******* name if Grispi doesn't get it.

i bet he gets it if he wins in an exciding way. cause that seems to be what you have to do to get anywhere in the UFC

Very true. And that's probably why the Zuffa brass set up this fight in the first place, every fight Grispi had in the WEC he won by first round finish. And Jose Aldo's only fight in WEC to do to a decision was the pure massacre of Urijah Faber. Everything else has been a KO

Well, if Grispi kept up with the UFC, I'm sure he saw this coming. Now that he's part of the UFC things like number one contender become more complicated, considering there are more fighters, and more matchups. I'm pretty sure there are some UFC Lightweights thinking about moving down in weight.
