Fabricio Werdum Earns Title Shot — And the Reasons Why

Sounds like everyone is really underrating Werdum. He's pretty dang good and we all know that almost every Pride fighter needs one match in the cage to get rid of the jitters. I just think you should prolly show the guy some more credit as he has take Nog to a Decision so the person referring to Werdum as a walk through must be mistaken. He also beat Aleks too with he sick BJJ so.......Before we bash this guy we and talk about how he is getting the title fight due to a lack of talent may be true but he is true talent.
Wait till you see him work his BJJ and then we will have so many people on his bandwagon just like always.

Kongo is going to get decimated in his next fight against Herring so mebbe this is a little premature to announce until Kongo does in fact lose as any educated MMA fan would see Kongo's weakness is the takedown and Herring is a wrestler.

for the people who want arlovski to get the title shot..

imagine if tim sylvia wins -- who on earth would pay to see alrovski-sylvia IV ?!

well the UFC are notorious for promising title shots and not going through with it... I think if Arlovski beats Obrian, and also resigns with the UFC...then he will get that shot..

Kongo is also deserving...but his fight at 83 with Herring puts him outta the picture, cause it would be another 2-4 months before it would happen..giving Tim or Nog a 6 month break..which I dont think will happen.

Werdum looked good to me, his Chute Box training has definately paid off...his Muay Thai looked pretty solid, and once he started chekcing the leg kicks...he seemed to control the fight.... as for Gabe taking him down at will?.. thats what Werdumw anted..he likes o fight off of his back......so if Gabe was gonan take him down..he was all for it

Werdum is definitely not a B level fighter, but how does he deserve a title shot over the last guy who beat him (and hasn't lost since)? Because their fight was boring? Come on! How is that AA's fault? Werdum was in that fight too. A lot of times when you get two great fighters, especially if they match up well, it can be boring. Yeah, it sucks; but, don't forget all the other great fights AA has had. Dana is a little quick to drop people based on the direction of the wind IMHO.

I don't think the HW division is all that shallow:

Brandon Vera
Antonio Nogueira
Shane Carwin
Randy Couture (if he ever comes back)

Not the greatest list, but not the worst either. Plus there are a few up and comers like Hardonk from whom I think the best is yet to come. Definately some big names and lots of talent in that list. But, like LHW, a lot of these guys are evenly matched and there doesn't seem to be a dominant champion among them.

Let me be the first to say that I totally underestimated Werdum. There, I said it....
I dont see how he gets a title shot though... 1-1?? I guess b/c the HW division isnt as stacked as say the WW (Will Fitch ever get a title shot!!)

How do you give a title shot to a guy you don’t have a contract with?

Werdum is 10-3 in MMA and the caliber of fighters he's faced is far superior to Kongo's 11-3 record. If anything they should meet for the title shot but Id say Werdum is slightly more deserving.

i think AA should fighthonestly or ... idk ... actually.. there really isnt anyone.

I agree with you totally.

I honestly think Arlovski is done in the UFC after his fight with Jake O'Brien. I hope not though.

I am still trying to figure out why Kongo is fighting Herring and not Arlovski. And Mir still needs a fight or two after Lesnar for a title shot. Mir lost to Vera don't forget...Brandon Vera could be back in the running if he wins his next fight.

What if Lesnar destroy's Mir??

the HW divisions is all messed up and it is the blame should go on fedor and randy. AA was prb pissed he was told he would get a title shot if he beat werdum and didn't get it hence the not signing yet ( i would be to, don't care if it was boring, it is a sport not wwe ) so with the whole randy/fedor thing doing it pretty much bumped everyone close to title shot because of the timing and how everyone was staggered on the fight cards it made it uneven. now everyone is booked so it only leaves werdum left. kongo v heath, AA v jake. so not much to do without having to wait forever for the winner to get a title shot plus injuries, vera and CC were both hurt. so not much to do. so basically CC needs to get back to old self, vera needs to heal up, AA needs a new contract, Kongo already has a fight which i think he will lose bad when heath takes him down (plus i think he would be outmatched v either nog or tim) and Antoni Hardonk doesnt have enough fights but wow he will be a force with his striking and having ersneto Hoost in his corner. plus leasnar v mr which mir should winner with his BJJ but he needs another winner over a A level fighter to get his shot back which his could lead to AA v Mir if they both win their fights. then u could have vera v cc v hardonk v winner of kongo/ heath in up coming ones plus the newly signed Shane Carwin can be thrown into the mix so all in like every-other div except MW the div has no clear no. 1 contenders and fighters keeping getting put on pause

How do you give a guy who doesn't have more then one fight left on his contract a title shot? AA can't be given a title shot, look at what happend when BJ left.

They re-sign Crocop or something? His contract is about up as well and last I herd he was planning on retiring after it was up.

This seems like a legitimate fight for NOG, usually White likes for his new champions to wear the belt for a little while before losing it. So just like in every devision a champ gets to take on a lesser opponent the first time for his title defense. Gives Dana a chance to A) Create a great number one contender fight. B) Give the former champ a chance to avenge his loss, tuning both fighters up for a rematch. C)Creates more money opportunity and fans support for champs and the UFC.

NOG will get a couple of easy wins before Dana tries to test him as a champ.
