UFC Lightweight has a big fight just around the corner against Anthony Pettis at UFC On Fox 6. The contest was originally supposed to go down in the summer of 2012, but an injury and subsequent surgery for Pettis left Cerrone fighting teammate Melvin Guillard at UFC 150 instead.

Now, with the fight he's been waiting for coming up in only a week, Cerrone decided to go rock climbing. UFC president Dana White didn't seem happy with his decision.

Seeing as im flying in to chicago for the weekend to catch the fight, I would have been pissed if he hurt himself.

Driving a vehicle is more dangerous than rock climbing. Its a very safe sport

Dana should just calm down.
I'm sure it was just one of those places in the mall you pay 20 bucks to climb 15ft.

Its probably not smart the week before a fight, but rock climbing generally is a safe sport (if you do it with the right people).

I agree with Dana. Cowboy is a professional athlete, and with it go restrictions. All other major professional sports have activity restrictions for their athletes. I understand that the UFC fighters are contract employees; however, they still can put restrictions on fighters. In my opinion, the fighters can do whatever they want if they do not have a fight under contract. Once under contract, they should have restrictions in place. The UFC invests a lot of money promoting cards and certain fights. In addition, many fans invest a lot of money to see particular fights, and its not fair for them if the athlete gets hurt doing something stupid. Getting hurt in training is one thing, but getting hurt rock climbing is stupid. Also, I agree rock climbing is relatively safe, I have a lot of friends who aren't particularly great athletes or daredevils that do it, but you can still get hurt and at this level even a minor injury such as a sprained ankle or finger can cause a fighter to drop out of a fight.

Who cares?

Dude owns a ranch that he works at. Ranching/farming is THE most dangerous occupation in the country, so climbing some rocks is small time.
