Diaz was hospitalized shortly following his bout with Mike Aina in Hawaii. Turns out he had a serious staph infection at the time of the fight.

I guess that explains why he wasn't in Nate's corner for his fight.

Is it even possible anymore to lose a fight without offering an excuse? I know Diaz won the decision but still..

He's been in the hospital on an IV for a week after a fight that he clearly won. How is that an excuse? Its not like he said he was sick in the post fight interview. Why can't this be a reason for a lack luster performance and not an excuse? I don't think it affected him that much at the time of the fight. He said he just felt like he ate something bad or it was jet lag. It really hit him after the match.

I am surprised fighters getting sick after they fight doesn't happen more. There defenses are down while cutting weight and it is the perfect time for some infection to take over.

He definitely didn't look like his normal self during that fight.

Nick Diaz rules, and as far as I'm concerned this only builds to his mystique. If he had lost, it would be an excuse...but I like Nick so its not.

He dominated that douchebag anyways.

I wouldn't say dominated..

I wouldn't say dominated either, but now that fight makes more sense.

I stand by what I said. Diaz landed 186 punches and Aina landed 67. Thats almost 3X more punches landed. Diaz had two takedowns to Aina's zero. Diaz had 6 sub attempts to Aina's 1. Unless your saying that Diaz's punches are one third the power of Aina's then you have no leg to stand on.

He wasn't allowed to be in the corner because he was suspended. This time he was not. He could have been in the corner for this fight because his suspention is over.

I couldn't believe how the announcers were trying to MAKE the fight closer than it really was. I think they convinced everyone the fight was close.

Check out the numbers the other fellow posted, my statement was simply made on what I saw.

Diaz took a couple decent shots, his power in his punches weren't there like I thought they should've been...but check out his timing in the 2nd and 3rd round.

In the last 30 seconds he takes the guy to the ground and punishes and almost submits him. Then he waits until the last minute of round three and does the same thing.

The judge who scored it 30-27 knew how to judge...the possibility remains that Diaz may have been told to make it an entertaining fight and keep it going. He schooled that guy in everyway.

Now we have the stats to back it up.

I usually assume the people who are on this site would see the same things I did, and not just listen to the douche and turd sandwhich announcers.

If diaz had a staph infection, he shouldn't have fought. Staph infections are incredibly contagous and a combat sport like MMA plenty of contact between bodies occur for the staph to spread. One guy got a staph infection in a tournament he went to in wrestling, didn't know it, he practiced and the next day half my team was infected.

He didn't know. He thought it was jet lag or something he ate.

Even sick he stuck to his fighting style and won a tough decision that I think he deserved. Just wish he'd make it back into the UFC.
