Debate Continues Over Frankie Edgar's Place in Pound-For-Pound Rankings

Frankie Edgar's stunning and brilliant UFC 136 victory over Gray Maynard cemented Edgar's on any sensible fan's pound-for-pound rankins. It's simply a matter of where on your rankings you have him.
Pound-for-pound rankings are extremely subjective and the fact that everyone seems to have their own ideas about what they actually mean makes for a lot of debate. But debate is fun and a good way to spend a Friday afternoon.
With that in mind, Yahoo! Sports has released their newest P4P rankings and, despite Dana White's assertion that Edgar should now be #2, he sits at number four.
Dave Doyle talks about the ranking at Yahoo!:
White went on to argue, with some merit, that Edgar is small by the current standards of the lightweight division and that if you're looking at the phrase "pound-for-pound" in a strict sense, then Edgar's size has to be taken into account.
But the UFC boss' words didn't make an impression with voters in the Yahoo! Sports poll, as for the third straight month, Anderson Silva and Georges St. Pierre were unanimous choices at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively. Edgar, for his part, moved up one spot to No. 4 after his win.

Sorry... I think "Pound-for Pound" rankings are a tad ridiculous by nature. There simply ins't any way to quantify one fighter against another in some make-believe world where they all way the same and can fight each other.
I understand the novelty in sparking debate and the conversation that can from from it. But the context and nature of debating P4P just seems silly to me.
Frankie Edgar is a fantastic fighter and great champion. I think we can probably leave it at that.

While I generally agree with you, I think the whole concept of p4p is to allow fans to be inclusive in the sport of MMA, because that's what this is, it's a sport dependent on the entertainment of it's fans. It's like comic book fans debating if Captain America or Batman is more bad ass, you know? It's purely for fun, and those who take credence in this whole process as being legitimate, they are taking this whole thing way too seriously in my opinion.

BJ penn put him at ten but then he almost loses two fights, he needs to actually dominate a challenger I think..... No way he is above Anderson, GSP, Aldo, Valasquez, Cruz, or Melendez.... He beat BJ but I think BJ ranks higher at this point as well.
This is coming from a hardcore Frankie fan since his first fights in the UFC.

I don't like that author's take on the topic of p4p rankings. He seems to be assured that his process is the right process, and that others arent correct. All the while forgetting the fact that its a subjective criteria, and therefore no one will ever be objectively correct.
Specifically, i disagree with him. In my own opinion, i think size relative to your division is important in determining a p4p ranking. To gloss over particular variables like that, eh i just think it makes me stop paying attention.
