He had to, contractual obligations. PRIDE deal.

Only question, of course, is how many.

What an ironic time for this happen considering the Fedor fiasco.

Couldnt they just release him after 1 fight

Most likley, they wil if McCorgke beats him. If not.....given the right match-ups Hunt could string together some wins at eh lower tier of the HW div. He could be a launching pad for Travis Browne, ,Mike Russow, or Todd Duffee

When Mark Hunt has his act together, he can be a threat, I just don't know if that's posssible at this juncture. Put him up against Kongo and see where that leads him.

If he loses, possibly. That would be 6 in a row. But again I think it comes down to how many fights he's owed, so it may not be a first-loss cut like Kimbo. And if they wanted him out that quickly, why not just give him someone like Cro Cop?

Because Crocop is one of those fights he could still win

Throw Hunt a super-can and then he'll win.

I think Dana has finally realized that freak fights are good for the sport. They attract viewers, make money, and it's not like anyone takes their victories as serious so it doesn't hurt. They are incredibly fun to watch so long as they aren't overdone.

I would agree, Jae. Though, I doubt you'll ever hear him admit such a thing. When they are done in moderation, freak fights are pretty awesome. Although, I would have to say that I don't think this qualifies as a freak fight. Hunt is a legitimate mixed martial artist. Even people calling Toney vs. Couture a freak fight is misguided in my mind. Yes, it looks to be a one-sided ass kicking on paper, but Toney vs. Couture is the very essence of UFC's roots. Toney truly believes that his boxing skills will be superior to Couture's wrestling and ground and pound. Now, Batista and Lashley....that's a freak fight. Canseco and, well anyone, that's a freak fight.

I think Hunt would easily take Toney

I also think Hunt would destroy James Toney. Kickboxers almost always take advantage of pure boxers.

This is the first I've heard of this signing that's awesome though I love seeing big names get to fight in the UFC it's awesome. I wonder who he's going to fight has it been confirmed? Give him to Dos Santos. If he can knock him out he's got crazy power for sure.

Most truthful statement of the day!

hunt will still wreck almost anyone in the ufc standing up. of course, nearly any wrestler and many other grappling based opponents will beat him unless they gas.
i hope he gets good match ups, but dana certainly won't feel feel obliged to do so.

i think it is for two fights, but not certain.

His record is misleading considering most of the guys he has lost to.

I say he has a chance to win 2/3 fights against lower tier guys, but I don't think he'll make and significant noise.

I agree. Glancing at his Elo scores, his opponents' aggregate rating - his "strength of schedule", so to speak - is 1887. I think that might be the highest in the sport, ever. By comparison, B.J. Penn's is 1874, GSP's is 1868, and Brock Lesnar's is 1844.
