Eight-month-old Tuptim Jadngooluem has been given a second chance at life after she successfully underwent surgery at Ramathibodi Hospital in Bangkok yesterday.

Tuptim, who was diagnosed at three months with a terminal liver condition known as biliary obstruction, has spent over a month in hospital awaiting a parental donor liver transplant to save her life.

To keep her baby alive, Tuptim’s mother, Nit, donated part of her liver during yesterday’s operation, performed by Bangkok-based specialist Dr Sumate Teeraratkul.

After 18-hours of surgery involving mother and daughter, both are today recovering in Ramathibodi Hospital and are said to be doing well.

Always cool to hear stories like that one. Personnaly my nephew had a liver desease at birth resembling the one of that little girl. Sadly he didint make it (R.I.P. Jimmy) but thats why i always like to see people and specially kids get help and manage to recover from such deseases.

I love seeing/hearing about this kind of thing (obviously not the illness) but the fact that people are going out of their way to help. It's awesome, Dana deserves a ton of respect for this, love him or hate him, this was a class act on his part and he should be applauded for it, very unselfish thing for him to do.

kudos to Dana. he has gained a lot more respect from me. hopefully a lot of those MMA detractors who dislike Dana due to his loud and foul mouth will see him (and hopefully the sport as he is the most notable spokeman) in a new light.

and to D0wnUnd6e6r, i am sorry to hear that

Of course, but if you have a kid you would know it hits home just a bit more.

I didn't understand how Dana chose the family for donation so I went to the Phuket Gazette's website and the father is Rattanachai “Kru Nai”, a well-known trainer at Tiger Muay Thai. Just in case anyone else was wondering how this family was chosen.

It actually came about on the UG when someone asked for a donation from Dana.
