Dana says "Fedor Sucks"

• White said he does not believe PRIDE heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko is one of the top five heavyweights in the world. “Fedor sucks,” he said;

This was said during the press conference that announced the deal with Spike TV, when talknig about other things he said these things about Fedor...obviosuly I don't have to elaborate, but this was just a tad imature coming from Dana...wait Dana said this....that makes perfect sense http://www.thefightnetwork.com/news_detail.php?nid=5214

Immature, and downright bitter if you ask me.

I remember hearing him say "Fedor's by far the best in the world" not to long ago. Like a little kid who's mad at his buddy for not bring his spider man toy over anymore. I guess he doesn't realize it makes him look like a moron when he offers a guy who "sucks" the most money per fight in his org....says alot about what he thinks about his guys.

Wow, lotta big news...where to start?

The new deal seems to be pretty much the same as before. 3 seasons of TUF, 4 UFN's per year, and about 13 episodes of Uleashed per year. This part did not surprise me.

The new, live weekly fight series is what excites me. I've been wanting this for a long time. It's only gonna help the UFC grow more. Finally, we'll get to see some of the up and coming guys more regularly rather than having them in lesser orgs and in the Prelims. It's a way to build a fan base for each fighter.

I figured that Brock would make his debut at the Super Bowl event. But who is he gonna face?

The Silva/Hondo fight is really the only option for the UFC. I think Hondo realizes the MW division needs a boost, and he is willing to give it that.

I had been wondering about AA as well. Could he be the one facing Brock? I doubt that, but I'd like to see him face Sylvia again...maybe Cheick Kongo.

Is Penn gonna fight Sherk or Stevenson? No doubt in my mind he shoud fight for the belt, but I'd much rather see that Stevenson/BJ fight.

Fedor does suck.

I remember that well myself.

I acctually know the fellow who did this interview, and he said dana wen't on several rants during this interview.

Does he always offer multi-mil $ deals to guys that suck? Doesn't seem very smart. Any BTW, your (now ex-) HW champ seems to think he's the best.

Spin it, Dana. A couple casual fans who only watch the occasional PPV might buy it.

I'm curious as to what he meant by... "The UFC hopes to have a television contract in place in the United Kingdom sometime in 2008"

The ufc DOES have a TV deal in place already in the UK. We get TUF within a week of it being broadcast, all US based PPV's the day after, and also episodes of unleashed.

They are on a channel which is free to Sky subscribers, so I can only hope that he doesn't mean it's going to an alternative channel where it's gonna cost more money to watch them

Dana sounds like a bitter ex-girlfriend. He was too stubborn with Fedor and he blew it, and now he is just publically insulting him. What makes it even more offensive is that fact that Fedor did not bring any of this on himself, he simply didn't do the deal that Dana wanted because he didn't feel it was right for him. Fedor is one of the nicest guys in the sport, he is always respectful and softly spoken, Dana is being a complete Jerk and totally unprofessional by doing what he is doing, Fedor doesn't deserve that.

I don't get why people are surprised or outraged. He's a promoter, not a member of the media. All top promoters generally promote their product as the best , and everyone else's as inferior. King, Arum , Sakikabara, White, Shaw, will all say they have the best . This statement isn't for us diehards. It's for those casual with, or new to MMA. He also now has to defend against the real media( ESPN, Fox, SI, etc . ) . I'm sure many of us have read articles by these guys . most of whom are new to MMA IMO, and thought we know a lot more about it than they do. I know I do. So unless someone here is gullible enough to drink the koolaid, it seems a non-issue to me. Pride had Gomi saying he wanted to fight GSP and Hughes. I highly doubt he would want to move up to that weight and fight either one. Dana said Wandy got destroyed and wasn't worth fighting Chuck, and that it would never happen. Well it is now. Gary Shaw said Frank Shamrock is the best P4P fighter on the planet. After Larry Holmes left him, Don King said he was a 2nd class fighter. When DelaHoya left Arum, Arum had plenty of bad things to say about him. These guys may love the sports they promote, but they are still gonna try to keep control and power in their purview . Promoters spew a lot of inflammatory hyperbole to get people interested in their product, and downplay everyone else's . I doubt very much that even 1% of the people on this sight are that misinformed. If you want to do a service, it might be best to spread this to casual fans that are getting more into MMA. Just do it in a friendly way. Too often people try to disparage someone else's opinion when they think it isn't as knowledgeable as theirs on a given subject. When new people get invited to my house to watch UFC , and I have a difference of opinion, I often say I see where their coming from. Then I ask if they have seen fighters from some of the other orgs. If they say no I offer to show them some after the PPV, and sometimes even lend them some DVD's. Also , if someone really think Fedor sucks it;s fighter bashing for posting it that way. I think he was just making a joke though.Not funny . Consider this a 2nd and final warning Ohiostate 1016 , unless you are that 1%. If you are please don't post till you've read everyone else's for a couple of months.I'll send you a copy of the rules right now.

There is no way that Fedor is top 5. Look at who he has beat.

I think Fedor has to at least beat a top striker like maybe Nog, or a K-1 level one like Semmy Schilit , Cro Cop or Hunt to prove himself on his feet.
As for Fedors ground fighting i would like to see he fight at least a few good wrestelers like Randleman, Coleman or Fujita maybe even Lindland.
Im not sure about his subs skills but maybe if he fought Babalur or Arona, he might have enough skills to beat Nog on the ground.

IMO Fedor has to doo all that before he impresses me.

I agree with this for the most part and understand where you're coming from, but what seems iffy to me is that most casual fans don't know or care who Fedor is. And that fact just makes it seem that White is being more vindictive than anything else... Just my 0.02$

when m-1 crumbles within a year im sure dana will change his tune and say fedor is one of the best in the world again. this is dana being dana, and to me is more funny than offensive, like the smacker said hes a promoter promoting his company.

If he actually thought this was true. He wouldnt have offered him one of the biggest contracts in the history of UFC.

True Fedor is worth more than anyone in fighting skill.
But Randy Couture is worth more money to the UFC in popularity.

My buddies at work were talking about the UFC and they thought Randy was the greatest, i said he should fight Fedor. They looked at me like i was ******.
I also Mentioned Wand later. Same blank look.
