I just talked to DW and this is what he had to say:
The split was amicable and the terms were decided on in advance. Cro Cops $350k (plus bonuses) contract had a clause in it stating that if he lost two consecutive fights Zuffa had the right to void the existing agreement and negotiate a new one.

CC never dreamed that he would be so overwhelmed by the level of competition he has faced in the UFC so far and and the losses have impacted him mentally.

The UFC did NOT cut Cro Cop from the roster nor did they threaten to make him sit out until his contract expired if he didn't take the pay cut deal.

Rather than negotiate a new contract with the UFC right now (and risk racking up more losses), Cro Cop wants to get a couple of tune up fights (and wins) in some of the smaller shows (no more tune up matches for him in the UFC) in hopes of rebuilding his confidence and getting himself back on track.

DW understood completely and supported Cro Cop in his decision. The last thing DW wants to do is shell out a six-figure purse to a fighter that isn't fighting worth a dayum. Even though it would have been lower than the original figure, it would still be a waste of money and resources.

Cro Cops ultimate goal is to win the UFC HW championship belt and DW believes he still has the potential to accomplish that goal. CC's plan when he signed with the UFC was, "I will become Champion after three matches. I will need two and a half or three months off between each match. I expect to hold the UFC belt by the Summer. Then I want Pride Champion Fedor Emelianenko, Vs Me the UFC Heavyweight Champion on New Years Eve."

If that was directly in the contract about the 2 fights, you cant blame the UFC at all. CroCop didnt stack up.

UFC is seriously super tight with fighter salaries. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

<--- that's Dana White, Joe Silva, the Fertitta brothers and me discussing how to talk Cro Cop into fighting for free in the next UFN

this sounds a lot more legitimate and reasonable than previous reports stating that the ufc was forcing CC to take a paycut or sitout the remainder of his contract.. sadly, I dont see CC making it back to the octagon, especially since one of his tuneups fights seems to be against fedor.

I like Cro Cop out of the UFC anyways. Well obviously I would love to see him in the UFC, but if his heart isnt there, and it wasnt, then he should fight where he will be himself again.

I was really looking forward to more of CC in UFC,but I'm glad to hear he left on good terms and could possibly return.I do hope he gets another crack at Fedor though.

Im very happy with this decision. I want Cro-Cop fighting against top competition but i do think he needs a break and maybe the chance to fight on a more consistant schedule to get back into form. This is a good plan for all parties.

Wow, written with true sly bias, the knife is well and truly behind the curtain. Cro Cop's last loss was just pure bad luck, he got his ribs broken in the first round; to survive to a decision deserves applause in itself!

Cro Cop left because he didn't like the UFC, he never did and it was never a secret. Now Dana wants good PR by trying to sound like he is behind Cro Cop, but whover wrote that article is taking every oppertunity to have a sly dig at Mirko. Yes, he lost tw fights in a row, but he wasnt "overwhelmed", the Gonzaga loss was due to not training right, he could looked set t demolish Kongo, and he was walking Kongo down until the kick that broke his ribs. "Overwhelmed"? Not really, I still think Cro Cop is ready to start wrecking people again.
