Alright, lets be serious folks....

Cung Le looked simply amazing tonight. I've never seenn anyone as quick and diverse and Cung Le. He reminded me on the oldschool karate movies where the little asian guys were unstoppable...it was amazing.

Anyone else have any thoughts? I'm ready to throw him in my MW top 10 right now without hesitation.

I didn't see him fight tonite, but from what I've seen of his kickboxing fights the guys a machine. I think he'll go far in the sport

Depends if he has a decent ground game too... I think a decent wrestler takes him down easily about the 100th time he throws that spin kick... Guess we'll see.

His standup was sweet and he was extremely quick and diverse like u guys said. Top 10? Not yet I want to see more of a serious opponent. How bout Villasenor? He is comin off a loss and would be a great match at the next Elite XC card

I think Le vs Shammy is a great idea.....I got Shamrock all day.

Le really impressed me. I am not really sure what kind of ground he has, but his foot speed seems to help keep him out of trouble.

Le and Shamrock would be a great fight. I would love to see Le take the title from Frank.

he actually reminded me of a smaller, asian (philipino?) sokoudjou.

he looked good but i think his ground game might be lacking

I agree he looked awesome, but until what I see he's got off his back , or he displays his takedown defense against a good ground guy I'm going to try not to get to excited. I tell you what though , I would really love to see him against Anderson Silva. That would be standup heaven

Im going out on a limb and am going to make a prediction. Cung Le will change the stand up game the same way Cro cop did when he came in. We have not really seen a fighter fight the way he does with any success in MMA.
We are going to see it with Cung Le. His takedown defense is good, my guess is he probably couldn't submit Wayne Weems, but judging from his San Shou fights he can put his opponent down at will. Yeah, I know that some of that stuff doesn't transfer to MMA, but I think more of it will as he becomes more comfortable in the cage.

I would love to see him fight Silva, too. I seriously think that Cung would take that one.

The funny thing is, I had him ranked as the #10MW for a while then decided that he needed to prove himself more.

definetly, I would love to see that fight.

I know he has good takedown defense, and half of that just comes from his speed. He was simply amazing, I don't think I've seen anyone move as fast as that before for 3 rounds.

Although I see your point, that until we see him on the ground it is hard to rank him, but I'm going out on a limb and still doing it. It doesn't matter how good/bad one is on the ground when they never end up there.

I want to see him against a good opponent that will take him down and see how he does off his back, before I even think about putting him in the top 10. He did look great though, a standup clinic.

Awesome kicks! Not only good looking but really effective.
But thinking about it, i really don't understand why Frykland didn't took him down. He didn't even try?!?! I mean, he took a hell of a beating and seem to have a great chin, but as a mma fighter you gotta take advantange on your opponents weaknesses. Frykland wasn't even thinking about it.

Yeah, I was thinking this too...and I am a bit suspicious about it too. I wonder if there was the possibility that this fight was fixed (i.e. stand up only bout). If not, then yeah, Cung Le could be a force to be reckoned with. I want to see him take a swift shot from a top notch striker, and I want to see his ground game before I say anymore.

I thought Cung looked pretty amazing. His kicks were as fast as punches. It's easy for folks to sit back and say "why not just take him down" but let's face it, with Cung's kicks, they were taking a toll on his entire body making it not only unpredictable, but they probably did lots of damage and hindered his shooting. Also, after getting nailed a few times, it's easy to lose your game plan, and try to get even by trying to land big shots of your own (ala Andy Wang).

I thought it was a great display, but I'm not 100% sold. Like others, I'd like to see a few more fights and him face someone who actually wants to go to the ground. I heard Cung has some slick ground defense and is no stranger to the ground, but his stand up is his meat and potatoes.

Kung Lee almost reminded me of a more agressive Machida. I think that would be an interesting match up of unorthadox stand up fighting. But Machida would defently have the edge on the ground.

But what I think should happen with Elite XC, is Matt Lindland should drop his Bodog contract and go kick Chung Le's ass, Frank Shamrocks ass, Ninja's Ass, and Joey V. ass, and make alot of money doing it. I would pay to see all those fights.

Nevermind I just saw him fight, Cung Le looks like he knows what he's doing. That's insane.

I don't sit back and say "why not just take him down", i said frykland didn't TRY it for nearly 3 rounds. There were plenty of possibilities (and not even talking about catching a kick!). That doesn't mean Frykland would have automately been successful with it, but there was nothing like trying it.

the ufc should sign him up as fast as they can. he is the most dominate stand up guy i've seen in a long time or at least top 3.

Stop saying his ground game is bad if you haven't seen it. His stance and lack of trying the take down indicates he wouldn't be the best grappler out there, but let him be tested before saying he is nothing but stand up. Plus you don't know what he'll work on and who he'll train with in the future. Give it time.

I completely agree. There was no need for him to try and take the fight to the ground and his opponent was not interested in taking him down either.

Alright guys, lets stop the bickering. There is a reason people don't go to the clinch and try to take Cung Le down. Its this:

Slamtastic

This guy TRIES to catch a kick....doesn't work out all that well for him. If Cung Le can do this wearing 16 oz gloves....

I agree, but I just thought what they could do because of the whole K1 alliance, is Cung Le should fight Manhoef. That would be standup heaven! IMO, but ethier fight would do it for me.

Heh, sorry didn't see it before....

And I hate to say it but I'm pretty sure that's one of his training partner and him giving a demo. I am not 100%, but that looks like the same guy as in my avatar, who is a student of his.

If Le wants to go to the ground, it's going to the ground. He's going to be a force in MMA. Too bad he is getting into the sport in his 30's. His learning curve should be short because of his sanshou background.

a take down is not going to matter if he kicks you in the head on the way in . He will be very dominant and I think that he could be the next chuck of the middel weight devision.
