Coker: Thomson-Cavalcante Winner Likely Gets Melendez, But Maybe Not This Year

Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker today confirmed that the winner of a pending bout between Josh Thomson and Gesias Cavalcante is expected to get a fight with lightweight champion Glbert Melendez. It just may not be this year. According to Melendez' trainer/manager Cesar Gracie, DREAM has requested him for a possible spot on its Dynamite!! 2010 NYE event. "They're asking for him right now," he said. "I can't confirm anything." Gracie said Melendez's April brawl-related suspension ends in early October, though an overseas fight would take place outside the jurisdiction of stateside athletic commissions and a decision on DREAM will be made shortly. Thomson-Cavalcante is scheduled for the 10/9 SF event.

I liked Gilberts OLd plan of takedowns, wear on opponent, standup and get ko, tko. Now I think Gil is a cardio guy with movement.
