If UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo does indeed make a move to lightweight, current interim bantamweight champ Renan Barao (29-1 MMA, 4-0 UFC) could also move up a division.

"I feel very good in this weight division, but I feel in two or three years, if Aldo decides to move up a weight division, I might do that, too," Barao recently told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).

The 5-foot-7 Barao, best known for his incredible 29-fight win streak, actually debuted for the WEC in June 2010 in a 142-pound catchweight bout. That mark was requested by his opponent, Anthony Leone, who took the fight on short notice. His five fights since have all been at 135 pounds.

But before his time under the Zuffa banner, Barao competed at 145 pounds, and he admits he wouldn't mind doing it again someday in the future.

"I used to fight at 66 kilos (145 pounds), but when we closed the deal with the WEC, our trainer decided that I needed to fight at bantamweight because I would never be champion since Aldo had been there forever," Barao said. "He wanted another champion on the team."

If you read the article it says he has a difficult cut as he gets older its only going to get more difficult. If his training partner moves up why wouldn't he. whats with everyone wanting fighters to stay at one weight. Aldo has pretty much smashed everyone at 145 who wouldn't want to see fights with Maynard, or Henderson at 155? I want to see the best fight the best. I don't care what weight its at. All the crying over Lamas getting jumped by Pettis. He didn't get jumped Pettis has a much better resume at a higher weight there is no need to prove himself at 145.

No surprise with Aldo, I think the weight cut was really getting to him as long ago as his fight with Hominick. As for Barao, it would be cool if he could stick with BW and then maybe test the waters of FW for a dual title.

Fully support Barao moving up, but i would really like to see him smash Dom Cruz and drop the mic first

Makes sense. I know Nova Uniao thinks Hacran Dias could be a contender soon, but Barao has earned the right to fight where he feels best. He'd be competitive with the best at 145 lb.

Upon first glance, (and my vision is 20/15) Barao looks almost as big or if not a tad bigger than Jose...frame wise....the move up is inevitable.
