UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz hasn't fought in 16 frustrating months, and he's absolutely itching to get back in the cage. Still, he believes it's imperative to keep the ultimate goal in mind.

Same here. This is such a tough layoff to come back from though. I really don't know what to expect when he returns.

I expect him to lose to Barao then to get a number 1 contendership fight against Faber then that's where my fortune telling abilities run out

It seems like Cruz is never going to heal up 100%. I wish him the best, but I'm afraid he will never be the same fighter.

Unfortunately I agree, this is a huge lay off and it's taking quite a bit of time to recover from. If/when he returns I would much rather see him just fight one tune up before Barao, just for him to test himself again.

Although i agree and i'd rather see it myself as I would not want Cruz to risk his own health just for the sake of his job/fans/money. As a champion with an interim champion waiting I the wings I don't see why the UFC could justify giving Cruz a tune up fight. Although I do agree, fighting any top 3 in any division could be viewed as torture, if your not 100% it's only going to get worse
