With no regulatory body present, the U.K.-based Cage Warriors organization has implemented its own mandatory blood testing for all fighters.
Officials announced the plans on Tuesday.
Currently, the testing will be used to identify infections such as HIV and hepatitis B and C, but a Cage Warriors officials said it could be expanded to include additional testing, including steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs.
The British Boxing Board of Control currently mandates blood testing, but the regulatory body oversees just boxing, not MMA. That's why the UFC regulates its own shows in the U.K. and why the organization has implemented its own blood testing.
