The brother of Hall of Fame boxer Michael Carbajal could face up to 37 1/2 years in prison after pleading guilty Wednesday to fraud and theft charges.
Danny Carbajal, 56, is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 25 after entering his plea in Maricopa County Superior Court to one count of fraudulent schemes and two counts of theft.
He was accused of unlawfully transferring land and property that was jointly held by himself and his late wife, Celia, who was shot to death in 2003.
Prosecutors said Danny Carbajal submitted paperwork with false information to a divorce court and deeded all of the properties to himself over the course of three years.
Danny Carbajal used to be the manager for his younger brother, a former IBF and WBO junior flyweight champion.
Michael Carbajal, a Phoenix native, retired in 1999 with a record of 49-4 with 33 KOs and was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in June 2006.
