This back and forth between Golden Boy Promotions and the UFC is great. Boxing and MMA go head-to-head o September 19. It's UFC 103 in Dallas against the Floyd Mayweather Jr. boxing card. Last week, Golden Boy announced it would be adding three more solid fights to its undercard. UFC followed that announcement by unveiling a free one-hour lead-in show on Spike TV featuring two fights on the previously unaired undercard. Golden Boy has fired it's next shot announcing that the Mayweather-Juan Manuel Marquez fight will be available in 170 movie theaters across the country.

Wow this is so great! I usually am not a fan of the MMA VS Boxing BS but if cool stuff like this is going to be made avaliable to the fans then have at it. How cool would it be to have 100 or so super fans of either sport chilling in a theater watching the fight. Plus there is no smoking thats awesome.

I really love both sports but Mayweather just irritates me beyond belief. I would love to see the ufc win this PPV war but i dont see it happening. I'd settle for Mayweather getting KTFO though. Which that probably wont happen either.

If 103 had a title fight, I'd say MMA would take it...as it stands though, I think Boxing might just edge out a victory. It will be a true test of Mayweather's ability to sell though.

I hope it works out for them, maybe the boxing orgs can realize what it takes to make us fans again....then both MMA and Boxing could realize that if they put on quality cards on different days they will actually have more views because they won't force their fans to chose between the two...can't drink coke and pepsi out of the same can you know.

From my perspective, this is nothing new. They used to (and maybe still do) air wrestling PPVs in theatres up here all the time. I never went to any, but they were constantly being advertised at movies.

It may not be new in Canada, but it's definitely new in the US. With the exception of concerts being simulcast @ theatres, I don't believe it's happened here before.

And if it has, it wasn't marketed very well.

Back in the '60s and '70s, they used to show boxing events at the theaters. Ali-Frazier, etc. You just had to pay a few bucks to get in. Pretty cool that they're bringing it back.

I'm not sure Dana is ready for this. I'm surprised there isn't a title fight or at least some bigger draws on the card. Maybe he's just that confident but I see the UFC loosing this round. Its an average UFC card vs a boxing super fight, and now its in movie theaters!!

yeah if ufc aired in theaters for 10 bucks a ticket, they might sell out
i sure would rather see it in a huge screen than my tv for 50 bucks

I am soooooooo surprised the ufc hasn't got this thing in theatres yet. I would also rather pay 10/15 dollars to see it on a huge screen then 50 to see it at home.
it would become the place to see it , if they ever do go that route

Or in a bar thats so packed you cant see the big screen and have to look at some TV in some awkward position.

The screens are so big this would be awesome!
