MONTREAL – And then there was one.
Prior to Saturday night's UFC 154 event in Montreal, the UFC roster boasted two interim title holders. But after welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre downed interim title holder Carlos Condit to unify the belts in the 170-pound division, bantamweight Renan Barao (29-1 MMA, 4-0 UFC) was left as the lone interim champ on the roster.
Barao recently said he was happy to wait for champion Dominick Cruz to return to action before he fought again, but UFC President Dana White isn't so sure. Instead, he said Barao will soon defend his interim belt, and Michael McDonald (15-1 MMA, 4-0 UFC) could very well be the challenger.
"We were talking about Barao defending his title now," White told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) following Saturday's post-UFC 154 press conference. "So whether he wants to wait or not, we're going to go back to him soon probably here and have him defend it."
