I purchased a new laptop a few months ago, and one of the selling points for me, was a 17" HD screen, and blu ray player. I purchased a few movies, and everything was working fine. Last night, went to watch a movie, and it said the trial program was up, and I had to purchase the software, in order to watch blu rays. I did a quick search, and come to find out, there are no free programs that can be installed on the laptop to watch blu ray movies. So I'm a little pissed right now. I spent extra money to ugrade, only to find out I have to spend $80 to download software in order for the blu ray player to work.
Anybody recommend any software, or is it even worth spending at minumum, $80, to download software to play blu rays, when I can just go purchase a blu ray player for almost the same amount? I was using Cyberlink PowerDVD, but uninstalled it, when it wanted me to upgrade. I just tried Arcsoft Theater, and that seems to be solid so far.

Here's something to try. I use VLC Player almost exclusively for video playback, because it will play pretty much anything I throw at it. With a quick search, it looks like there is a workaround for Blu-Rays. Sounds like it still has some kinks to work out, but could possibly work well enough for your needs.
(1)Download and install
VLC Player (2)Download this file:
KEYDB.cfg ...and place the file in the AACS folder...in Windows 7, I believe you can find it at C:\users\
YourUsername\AppData\Roaming\
(3)Download this file:
AACS Dynamic Library ...and place the file in the VLC folder.
(4) Lauch VLC Player and play Blu-Ray.

I also use VLC player and if you can't get those directions to work you can always open the disc in a window from your my computer menu and open the video directly.
You won't be able to make the menu function but you can still watch the movie.

There seems to be no AppData folder. I might have to do a quick google search and see if it might be located somewhere else.
I tried your way Flashy, and couldn't get it to play. Thanks though.
EDIT* Found the folder. Still a no go. Oh well, looks like I can just convert to a different format and go from there.

Growing weed won't help this cause, unfortunately

It was a magic seed, that I planted in my computer, and it blossomed into a fruit bearing program

Is this the same magical seed that text me TODAY saying this?
Seriously, on July 17th?
