BJJ training

Ok so I live in the middle of fricken no where PA and it's very very hard to find a place to train BJJ. I found a school about 35 minutes away from me, but the teacher is not from BJJ! He teached hapikido and jeet kwon do. He was taught by BJJ black belts but himself is not a BJJ black belt I think he's a white belt.

So my question is should I even bother? Do you think it would be benificial? Or do you think I might be taught wrong?

Why don't you just call him and ask him for his BJJ credentials. Go over to Bullshido.net and do a search for his name or the name of his school to see what you can find.

I recommend calling him first though.

I think your best bet would be to check out some local fighters and see where they train. I know theres a good MMA school in Philly, but thats all I know of in that area.

Yea i would love to train at phillymma but im only 16 and my parnets wont drive me that far so i will start as soon as i get my license.

I doubt hes a white belt. And I'm pretty sure in order to be a LICENSED BJJ lead instructor you need to atleast have a brown belt.

Also take into consideration, the belt system in BJJ is not based purely on skill. It takes years to move up through to ranks.

Philly MMA is definitely an awesome school and probably worth the wait...in only 2 weeks there I've already learned a lot (I only take the Muay Thai classes but I hope to add BJJ soon). A lot of the more advanced students are actually amateur fighters(some even have one or two pro fights) and have no qualms about giving you extra help with stuff.

belts don't mean all too much. my instructor is only a licensed blue belt instructor but he was taught by pedro sauer and he is about as good as a brown belt he just has not tested for it.

You can learn from anyone who knows more than you regardless of belt rank. If you like the style train untill you find another place or just stay on. BJJ is over-rated IMO. Japanese Jujutsu, Judo, Sub wrestling, catch wrestling are all on par with BJJ....its just looking at grappling from a different perspective.

Ahhh, that pretty close to me. And yeah, all you see around there is farms, horses, and antique shops. I'm about 10 minutes over the MD/PA border, so its not that much better here, haha.
