HW: Cain Velasquez

7/26/08 2:23:28AM
HW- Shawn Cariwn
LWH- Full of to many veterans to have a young guy dominate so I won;t pick
MW- Demain Maia
WW- Thiago Alves, If he is too established then Anthony Johnson
LW- Gray Maynard, who ever they give, he dominates with MMA wrestling and ok strikes.

EDIT - Forgot Rory Markham too. WW is so stacked

LW: Gray Maynard, has the wrestling (and the camp) to be the next big thing over the next 2-3 years.

WW: Dong Hyun Kim- Kind of like the WW Yushin Okami. I like his chances more than Yoshida.

MW: Martin Kampmann (If he is not too established) is undefeated in the UFC and can do it all.

LHW: Probably Luiz Cane- good striking and I think he is a little better than Wilson Gouveia.

HW: Possibly Lesnar, or Velasquez.

WW - Hazelett
LW - Cole Miller

HW - Lesnar - I think this guy has real potential. He's so fast and we all know how well wrestling transitions to MMA.

LHW - Sokoudjou - It's hard to pick anyone in this division because it's so stacked. Sokoudjou turned some heads in his first two fights, if he can get back on that path he will definitely become a star.

MW - Palhares/Kampmann/Maia - All have the potential to become big names... Kampmann is well on his way, Palhares and Maia are on their way, their next few fights will be important. (especially palhares)

WW - Yoshida/Alves - I don't think Alves is well known at all so I put him up there. Since people on these forums will probably consider him to be established though I'll say Yoshida as a newcomer.

LW - Danzig - I think Danzig is going to be real comfortable at 155. I see him moving up the ladder. Remember that even though he's a seasoned pro, he's only had one UFC fight other than his run on TUF so I wouldn't consider him a star at all.

I have to agree with you on everything but Tim Boetsch...actually I think Matt Hamil is the next big thing at LHW.

HW- Shane Carwin
LHW- Luiz Cane
MW- Demian Maia
WW- Dong-Hyun Kim
LW- Gray Maynard

Shane Carwin- Total package. Awesome striking, and dominant wrestling. I think he's a future champ, right up there with Cain Velazquez. But he's a bigger version of Cain.

Luiz Cane- This guy is absolutely tenacious. He'll make his way in the top ten soon. Watch out Sokodjou!

Demian Maia- Awesome submissions. He has the best jiu jitsu out of anyone in MMA. Problem is he's probably a better fit for a welterweight, and his striking needs to improve. He'll beat a lot of guys in the MW division, but he's going to get hurt against a tough striker.

Dong-Hyun Kim- Really well rounded. Great at passing the guard and extremely aggressive. I think he'll be in the top ten mix once he starts fighting some top guys.

Gray Maynard- His striking has really improved to go alongside his stellar wrestling. I think he may be one of the strongest guys at LW. He's a future contender.

I'm having a hard time distinguishing between "future title holder" and "current rising star". So I won't name the already "big" names... otherwise my list would be different.

HW- Carwin (... would punish Velasquez)
LHW- Cane
MW- Palhares (I'd say Bisping but he's already pretty big)
WW- Kim
LW- Maynard

Alternate list (future title holder):

HW- Carwin
LHW- Rashad
MW- Bisping
WW- Rumble
LW- Florian

LW - Matt Wiman (4 straight wins, last win over tavares)
WW - Chris Wilson (took fitch to a decision)
MW - Rousimar Palhares (bjj freak)
LHW - Andre Gusmao (known for his bjj, but has more (t)ko's than subs)
HW - Cain Velasquez (tearing through everybody and has a good camp)
