In this thread, you can tell the other forum members what movies you saw that weren't that advertised, or that viewed. There are some really great movies out there, that get looked over by most people. Here and now is a way for you to suggest movies that were great to you, but really didn't get seen.

My suggestions: Clerks, Clerks 2, Brick, and The Lookout.

Clerks and Clerks 2 are by far my two favorite Kevin Smith films. Clerks introduced us to Jay and Silent Bob, two of the most prominent cult characters of the past decade. It also gave us Dante, the 'average joe' who deals with a lot of relationship problems throughout both Clerks, and Clerks 2. There to help him though is his friend Randal, the opinionated, and quite hilarious 'sidekick' type of character. From slacking off at work, to making fun of the customers, your never short of entertainment wtih Randal.

Then comes Clerks 2, which takes place ten years after Clerks. Dante and Randal are older, and both are dealing with changes in their lives, and the looming mid life crisis. Add in Jay and Silent Bob, who keep Dante and Randal on their feet. Then there is the new additions of Elias, the overly Christian sidekick to Randal, Becky played by Rosario Dawson, a love interest to Dante, and finally Emma, Dante's fiance aka another love interest.

In Brick, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, plays Brendan a teenager who finds his ex-girlfriend lying dead in a ravine. The movie set in a modern day Noir tone, follows Brendan trying to solve his ex's murder, while delving into the many different cliques of a modern day high school. As the movie progresses you find out more to this story, and new twists are revealed leading to a suspenseful ending.. Brendan is the unlikely protagonist, who becomes a hero.

In The Lookout, we find Joseph Gordon-Levitt playing Chris Pratt, a survivor of a horrible crash that killed his girlfriend, and two friends, that he just so happened to have caused. Chris a former star at his high school being the top player on the hockey team, now has problems remembering things. Now working as a janitor at the local bank, he just tries to move on with his life, living with a blind man named Lewis (played by Jeff Daniels). When he visits a bar one night, he is seen by a guy who offers to bring him in on a bank job, at the very bank that Chris works nights at.

These four movies are my top four movies that I think people should see, but haven't. i would add Serenity in there as well, but you'd need to see the Firefly series first.

Beowulf and Grendel.

It was a straight to video release, although it was a major motion picture in Iceland. Gerard Butler of 300 fame (he played Leonidas) is Beowulf, and its a bit of a twist on the tale, but its an amazing film. Seriously one of the best movies I've ever seen.

Make sure you grab the right one though, because there are tons of movies based on Beowulf.

Dead Alive
Equilibrium
Not sure many people have heard of these or not but Dead Alive is one of the goriest movies i've ever seen. Kind of a comedy horror flick. Equilibrium stars a young Christian Bale and has the feel of the Matrix. Some good ass kickin in that movie

Dead Alive aka Braindead is a classic gore fest. Directed by Peter Jackson who is known for his Lord of the Rings trilogy. Equilibrium is another good pick. You have good taste man. Rush also has some good picks.

Fracture- im not sure how well it did in the box office but i dont know many people that have seen it. awesome thriller where a guy (anthony hopkins) murders his wife but the prosecutor cant build a case against him because the gun he shot his wife with cant be found even though they know its in the house because police arrested him just moments after he shot her.

Silent Hill- based off a video game, its actually a really good thriller in which a mother and her daughter get in a car wreck and drive off a bridge in the middle of no-where. the mother wakes up in an abandoned town and cant find her daughter. she goes looking for her and finds out that the town isnt so abandoned afterall

The Score- Robert Deniro and Edward Norton try to break into a vault, all the while their mistrust of each other grows

Inside Man- awesome movie about a bank robbery in which the robber intends to walk right out the front door and get away with the whole building surrounded by cops. denzel washington plays a detective who communicates with the bank robber and trys to keep him from executing hostages.

I consider myself a movie buff, so the following flicks are some that I have seen recently that are on the top of my mind. Enjoy.

Swingers-I know a lot of you have probably seen this, but if you haven't, then you should. It has Vince Vaughn, and it's a classic guy movie. Give the ladies their chick flicks, as long as we can have our guy movies. This one is a classic.

A Beautiful Mind-A classic Russell Crowe flick. He plays a mentally retarded guy that is a smart mathematician. It's a lot like Rain Man, but with a different spin. Trust me, you'll like this.

The Condemned-I thought I'd hate this, but it's a hell of a movie. It has Stone Cold, and it's the one where they place 10 convicts on a island and let them fight to the death. The winner gets released. It's really gory (so you'll like it), but the story is solid as well (so she won't yell at you for picking it).

The Kingdom-This is a recent movie, and it's not on DVD yet, but get it when it is. It has Jamie Foxx, and there are 4 FBI agents who go to Saudi Arabia to investigate suicide bombings on an American military base there. It may seem a little corny, and a little to goverment-love driven, but the last scene/line is very powerful. Unfortunately, my girl hated this one, so you may have to watch it by yourself. After seeing this, I had to make it up by going to see The Game Plan (don't put yourself through that, by the way).

Anyway, I've seen a lot of the movies on here so far, and I have to admit, you guys know your stuff.

I am Netflix junkie, so here are a few you may not have heard of:

Fog of War - Robert McNamara's philisophy on war based on his own experiences during World War II and Vietnam. This is a fascinating documentary that levels what war is about with no political partisan bias.

Session 9 - I mentioned this in the scary movie thread. I am not a big fan of horror movies, but this movie is a very intelligent one that doesn't rely on gore.

L'Auberge Espagnole - French film (they speak English) about roommates who live in a flat in Spain. Its not a complicated story, but its a really good film to watch with a girlfriend or something (and no, its not a chick flick).

Primer - One of the best films I have seen about time travel. Its hard to absorb all the details, but it gets better every time you watch it the more you take in.

Three Colors Trilogy - Hard to explain these ones, but these are some of the best films I have seen. If you are into artistic films, you'll love these.

The Blind Swordman: Zatoichi - If you like Asian martial arts movies, this one is awesome.

Children of Heaven - Iranian film about a brother and sister. It seems very simple, but it is an incredible film. A couple of my friends who aren't too fond of foreign films absolutely loved this one.

If you have Netflix and are looking for something that a lot of people haven't seen, then get Hong Kong History X. Basically after how popular, and controversial American History X was, the good people over in Hong Kong were like, "let's do this, Hong Kong style.." Though I admit that American History X was the better movie, this was a nice little "weird cousin" to AHX.

just thought of some more:

Seven- serial killer kills a person for each of the 7 deadly sins in horrific ways. Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman are detectives who try to track him down.

Tears of the Sun- Bruce Willis is a Navy Seal captain who leads a team into africa to escort a doctor to safety. the seals end up evacuating the whole village the doctor is working in while being pursued by hostile rebels.

The Man who Knew Too Little- funny comedy starring Bill Murry where he unknowingly gets caught up in an assination attempt on foreign leaders.

A lot of good ones so far. As a movie buff I have luckliy seen most of them mentioned. My favorite cult classics not already mentioned in no particular order except # 1
1. Boondock Saints- was as a straight to video release because the director was a jerky bridgeburner. Awesome flick!' The job I wish God gave me.
2. The Salton sea- Great plot, dialog, acting, and mystery.A 1000 blessings to my roommate for showing me this flick
3. True Romance - Wriiten by Tarantino and Directed by Tony Scott. The scene with Walken and Hopper is priceless. Lot of cameos from stars. If you don't like violence, not for you
4. The big lebowski- Ha-freakin-larious!. Great acting.
5. O bother where art though- A comedic takeoff on the odyssey during the depression.
6. Army of darkness- Sequel to evil dead 1& 2. I don't know if Evil dead 1 was originally meant to be a comedy, but I laughed my ass off.
7. Where the buffalo roam& Fear and loathing in Las Vegas-- Bill Murray and Peter Boyle in the first as Hunter Thompson and his lawyer drugged up ravings in the first.
Jhonny Depp and Benecio Del toro do the honors in the 2nd. I can't say I agree with many of the political views of Gonzo journalism, but both movies are brilliant to me.
8. The gods must be crazy 1- A bushman finds a coke bottle and it changes everything.
9. Heathers- Dark Comedy. Christian Slater in high school, channeling Jack Nicholson, on a murdee spree, with girlfriend Wanona Ryder.
10. Bubba Ho-tep- Elvis never really died. He switched places with an impersonator who did, and nobody believes him. Now he's old, in a rest home, has a cancerous growth on his pecker, has a fellow rest home resident who thinks he is John F. Kennedy, and the 2 of them are trying to foil a 4000 year old Egyptian mummy who is sucking the life of the rest of the old people through their buttholes.
11. Repo man- @ guys who repo cars get caught up with alien Technology
12. Twelve monkeys- apocalyptic time-travel mystery.
13. Tron - Trippy sci-fi back in the day. Years ahead of everything of it's time special effects wise.
14. Jay and silent Bob and mall rats- @ of the funniest movies ever IMO. You need to have seen all the Kevin Smith New Jersey movies to get all the jokes in jay and Silent Bob strike back though.

Theres more but thats all I've got off the top of my head. I will probably edit this a few times.

There are some on your list that I do want to see, but haven't got around to yet.
