monson should not be on that list and i dont think hughes should either, im not exactly sure you know what you are talking about!! well if you were talking about wrestling maybe hughes, but not grappling or subbmission.. come on MMA , i give a class on saturdays maybe you should attend..
Shaolin should be on the list too, I would probably pick him as the best grappler

Dean Lister should be a mention. But out of the list Nog and Bj are at the top of food chain mma. And I think what separates them is the fact that they can work at such a fast pace and pull something off. Most grapplers like Travis Lutter are slow and take their time, but Bj and Nog don't have that problem. You set the pace and they're not afraid to match it.

Fedor ( Sambo master), Nogueira ( BJJ master), Werdum ( BJJ master), Kerr ( excellent takedowns, and submission defense), Arona ( excellent takedowns, and very strong. Filho's the same).

Bottom line is that polls on forums arent big enough to satisfy everyone.
I voted for Fabrico just cuz he is a ADCC champ.

Exactly, what in the hell type of poll is this?????? Hughes, Lindland, Randleman, Couture, Diego, and Monson are better grapplers. Very weird poll. Should have been best submissionist with the people you named.

Werdum if the best on the list but if you had Shaolin on there i would pick him.

All those folks you mentioned are excellent wrestlers, but IMO the term grappler is more all-encompassing, not only wrestling/takedown/GnP, but also submision/escapes/ability to work from the back, etc... It's also true that you can't satisfy everyone with a six option poll, so don't get too upset about it.
That being said, I'm gonna go with my personal fav, Genki Sudo, maybe not the best but in my eyes the slickest and sneakiest, a great fighter to watch in general... WE ARE ALL ONE!
PS: Sudo's my fav, but the best grappler on the list is Werdum.

Well I guess grappler does mean more all around ground skills, but I still dont like the choices presented. And trust me I definitley wasn't upset about it although I guess the way I type I get a little intense.
P.S. the best grappler on the list was Other haha.

The Nogueira brothers are the best grappling specialists in MMA today, simply geniuses when it comes to ground fighting.
Matt Serra is an EXCELLENT grappler left out.... good example of how only 1 skill wont make you a champion in MMA.

Fedor, has the best overall grappling in MMA IMO. Great wrestling, strength, subs, sub defense , and the best balance and GnP I've ever seen. He clearly outgrappled Big Nog twice, who many think is the best. Big Nog himself said before his match with Werdum that Werdum has better BJJ than him. I think the poll seems to favor sub artist over grapplers, which is a different thing IMO. It defiantely also undervalue's wrestler based grapplers like Hughes, Lindland, and Couture who just went to a draw agaist Jacare. Sub artist I'd go with Werdum. Penn, Aoki, Shaolin ,Filho, and Lister.

Well, Hughes may not be the best grappler, but he still a grappler. Yeah, he relies more on his wrestling background because that is his strongest attribute, but he still practices in submissions.
St. Pierre, on the other hand, is more of a striker/wrestler and Parisyan is a Judo practitioner.
How can you say that Monson should not be listed as a grappler when he is an ADCC champion? So to quote you, "im not exactly sure you know what you are talking about!!"

I don't know if hes the best, but Carlos Newton is one of my favorite grapplers, just because of the athleticism and unorthodox style. Saku in his time was probably the best. Lots of good choices out there, but the important thing is not who is the most skilled, but who can pull it off in the MMA world, which super talented guys like Serra and Lister have trouble doing.
If I had to put a list with all the good grapplers that exist, it could be endless.
Fighters like Hugues, Monson, Couture, etc base in being complete beside dominating in submissions.
For something I've put the "OTHERS" in the poll. Because i wish could be able to make a poll with many more fighters.
thanks to all.

TO : MMA MODERATOR::: Well you just said your self that matt hughes is not the best and that is what the question was, you probably think Tim Sylvia is the best grappler LOL...

AND I BELIEVE that monson just is not good enough to be fighting in the ufc

You are obviously too ignorant to understand the point of my argument, so I will kindly explain it to you: why list fighters such as St. Pierre and Parisyan when there are clearly more superior grapplers out there.
Why would I think Sylvia is a good grappler anyways? What a retarded assumption you just made there. And I think many people will agree that Monson is a great grappler ... so yeah, please come again.

P.S. I know you still PMS about that incident, but don't bother trying to start shit with me. I'm not as immature as you.

Edit: Oh, and PM me if you still have issues. Don't want to spam this thread with our nonsense.

jacare, Roger, Arona and Filho are the top end of the list.
Werdum and BJ also get special mention.
Arona is the best grappler in the world right now, which is agreed on by just about every other grappler around.

Absolutely worth a mention, when I did the poll yesterday there was no "Other" catagory that I recall. But the above mentioned are surley a concideration IMO. Good call Redmist
