His style is not flashy, but his performance was near flawless as he dominated Douglas Lima for all five rounds of their championship fight. The Windsor, Ontario, Canada, crowd, however, was predominantly unimpressed as they shouted boos throughout the main event.

Aware of the crowd’s negative reaction, Askren made no apologies for the manner in which he won the 50-45 unanimous decision.

“His stand-up isn’t something you want to mess with. If the Canadian fans want to stand on their feet for 25 minutes with Douglas, well, they wouldn’t last that long because he’d probably finish them earlier. My striking has improved tremendously, but that doesn’t mean that I’m going to stand around for 25 minutes and slug it out with someone that has one-punch knockout power. That’s ridiculous. If I wanted to do that I’d go to the sport of kickboxing.”

I'll agree his fighting style is boring, but his wrestling is a thing of beauty. He is one hell of a phenominal wrestler.

I guess you can't really blame the guy for the W the way he's most apt to get it, but it's not fun to watch at all. The guy's been competing his whole life and objective number 1 in competition is to come out on to come out on top, not to entertain. At some point in major sports entertainment becomes a part of the equation though.

The UFC would normally be salivating over a guy with the same record over the same opponents when he becomes a free agent. I'm totally guessing here, but I don't think that's going to be the case with Askren unless he has a couple of really impressive AND entertaining fights in the near future.

If they can give McKee a shot, then Askren has nothing to worry about except continuing to win

He had a few good exchanges with Ariel Helwani on Twitter today. Helwani basicly said he's talented but boring.

Last time I checked, Sonnen doesn't just lay on ppl and blanket them.

the dude is great at what he does, but boring wins wont earn him fans and fans are who are buying tickets. ticket holders make dana happy if you get my drift. askren needs to really impress so he can make the big leagues

Yeah...while he may have improved his standup skills, it seems to me he would do better to improve his ground 'n pound. It's no secret he can take a guy down and keep him there for 5 rounds. So why not develop vicious elbows that end fights? He likes to stand directly over his opponents (as we saw), and seems to have no trouble posturing up...i'd like to see him dropping bombs from there, or brutalizing opponents with an onslaught of knees to the body, elbows, and submission attempts.

...instead we get a smattering of punches that didn't even bruise Lima's face.

Agreed. The fact you even made that comparison shows your not objective.

I'm not trying to be objective.

I'm no fan of Sonnen and most people on here know that.

Me and Chael__Sonnen have a bit of a friendly beef (I'm an Anderson Silva fan) and I was just trying to zing him.

It's all in good fun though guys.
