Anderson Silva To Retire From MMA After UFC Contract Is Complete, Will Box Roy Jones Jr.

"It is undoubted that I will face Roy Jones. We have talked too much, have signed some contracts and we want to make it the sooner the better. It’s not for money or spotlight, it’s for my desire. Before that UFC is my focus. Dana treats me very well, as do all the staff of the organization. However I have to search what is better for myself. The UFC middleweight champion says he is "very satisfied with my results [in the UFC] and I want to continue this way until the end of my contract".

STORY

I had heard that there is a clause in every champions contract that if they keep defending their belt their contract automatically renews for one fight.

The renewal of contracts only applies to MMA, like the Randy situation. He "retired" thinking he could escape the contract and fight Fedor. This is a little different because he wants to go over to boxing. I don't think that they can stop him if he says he's retiring from MMA to try a different sport. Good luck Anderson, I just wish he'd stay in MMA, who cares if he can beat Roy Jones Jr. I want to see multi weight class dominance in the UFC which would do more for his legacy than beating a boxer who is past his peak.

What happens when Jones handles him though? Be interesting to see where he goes from that point.

That's the other thing. Silva has some good hands, but he is going to be at a disadvantage without the use of his MT or his JJ. Jones probably will beat him in a straight up boxing match, and then what are we left with?

Anyone know when Silva's contract is up?

I believe he has three fights left on his contract (including the one with Griffin I think).

If he only has two(three) fights , he better have a rematch with Hendo, as far as him boxing Roy Jones Jr., I could see him losing that match.

i hope the remaining fights post griffin are at middleweight as there are several matchups i'd like to see (belfort, henderson, okami, winner of maia/marquardt).

Anderson Silva would get dogwashed in a straight up boxing match with Roy Jones. I don't understand why he wants to do this so bad. Andersons knees are his most lethal weapon and he would not be able to use them in a boxing match. Roy Jones would pick him apart in a boxing match. As for everything else I love the way Anderson fights but his personality makes me not like him much.

Exactly. Can't get mad at him because he has a plan in life after fighting. Perfect time to hang the gloves up in his prime rather than go out like Chuck

still, gonna be sad to see the champ go.

Well regardless of what happens, Roy Jones is going to mop the floor with Anderson--even in his 40's he's still pretty damn good. I don't fault Anderson for wanting to pursue a dream fight, but I do think he may be a little dissillusioned in regards to his chances.

I belive it's going to happen. Maybe afterwards he comes back to MMA. I'm sure he has enough money to live comfortably. Especially if he can make bank in a bout with Jones, but more money is always better.
