As expected, UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva (33-4 MMA, 16-0 UFC) will meet top contender Chris Weidman (9-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC) on Independence Day weekend at UFC 162.

Now I feel no reason to justify my Anderson answer as he is the baddest man on the planet. If you pick Weidman I feel it necessary to explain yourself.

After all the recent talk of super fights across every weight class and top 10 guys getting fired for using wrestling, I am happy a less popular guy is getting his fair title shot just based on merit. It seems to be happening less and less these days in the UFC.

They have been screwing over guys like Weidman a lot in recent years......

oh and I pick Weidman on a hunch. For being the supposed p4p best ever, Andy has holes in his game.....namely suspect TDD and arrogance with the hands down on the feet.

Not sure if Weidman is great but right at this moment he looks much sharper than most of the guys Andy has fought in recent years.

I can see it starting slow, Weidman gets dinged up a little, Andy gets cocky, Weidman clips him with something, Andy drops, Weidman pounds on him, Rogan starts screaming, the ref lets Andy take a bunch of shots but finally has to stop it.

I can also imagine Weidman doing what Chael did in the first fight but with more powerful GNP and better sub defense. 5 rounds of spider smashing!

its gonna happen one day, it happens to all the best eventually. Weidman might be the one to do it.

so can anybody explain what makes Chris Weidman a dangerous threat to Anderson Silva? is genuine question, cuz i dont know the guy.

based on one fight against mark munoz i saw that he has great wrestling, his takedown timing is pretty good, he has good timing on stand up as well, and good submissions.

but

that still not enough to beat AS, though. So i wanna know what qualities he has to beat Silva.

Id feel a little better had Weidman took a fight before this after a long layoff and injury.

I picked Weidman but honestly brother I can see Anderson winning to. Each guy has the skill to win I just think Anderson may be over looking Weidman and in my opinion he is a better version of Chael Sonnen. Style wise I feel like he poses a lot of problems. If Anderson can stuff the takedowns then it will be a whole different story

He can execute the flying scissor heel hook

I just think it's time to let the bananas dance...with so many wt class changes and questionable title match ups it's good to see someone rewarded for a win streak in his division with a title shot that is appropriate. Do I think he will win? Hell no...but if it does happen then how fun will that be!

I will be rooting for Weidman. Not really a fan of either fighter, but it would be nice to see someone like Silva, GSP, Jones dethroned after long title runs.

Baddest man alive? You must have mistook Andy for Joe Warren. Common mistake.

Oh and to the guy that thinks Andy can get knocked out: keep dreaming. Andy has never been knocked out and has eaten many a shot. Take a look at the Andy v Jorge Rivera fight, or when he sparred with Bader. Andy, dropped his hands ate every punch and smiles afterwards. Andy in addition to being quite possibly the fastest and most accurate striker has a chin second to none.

I voted Teh Kingsmasher. (joke)

If he was still a PG member this would make his day. And then this thread would get locked.

Silva has a good chin that's for sure, but he also has good defense and reflexes. He rolls with the punches a lot and uses very good head movement not to get caught with the entire punch.

It's just very hard to pick against Anderson. But I could see this going a little like Silva vs Sonnen I.
I've heard people say they weren't impressed with Weidman's performance against Maia. Well Weidman did take this fight on only 10 days notice and had to drop 32 lbs in those 10 days.
Since then Maia has gone down a weight class and has been schooling folks and Weidman has fought Mark Munoz and Munoz I believe was the #3 Middleweight at the time of the fight and Weidman put an embarrassing whopping on Munoz.

I picked Weidman because he has decent wrestling and OK subs.

As everyone already knows, I will, of course, not be surprised to see Anderson Silva retain his belt.

Andy rd 1 KO, i think he is getting tired of all the talk and will smoke Weidman to prove a point. Weidman has a solid game but just dont see him beating anderson at the level anderson is fighting at plus the long layoff

1st Round: Anderson lays back making his usual 1st Round observations, maybe a takedown for Weidman w/minimal GnP.

2nd Round: Anderson puts more pressure on Weidman, landing major strikes while sprawling and avoiding all of Weidman's TD attempts. Weidman hangs on and makes it to the end of the round but barely.

3rd Round: Anderson takes him out with a flying knee.

A. Silva 3rd Round KO.
