The UFC has decided to part ways with PRIDE FC veteran Akihiro Gono following his decision loss to Jon Fitch at UFC 94 in January. The loss was Gono’s second consecutive loss in the UFC and it dropped his overall record with the company to 1-2.

The only thing that makes me slightly happy is that perhaps Sengoku will show his entrances? WAR DJ GOZMA!

I always enjoy Gono and his antics. Its a shame he wasn't able to put together an impressive string of wins to cement himself in the UFC. Gono definitely didn't do anything wrong as far as I am concerned. The UFC put him in match-up they were pretty sure he would lose for the most part. I'm not saying the UFC didn't give him a fair shake, but I would have liked to see more of Gono's fights instead of having him on the under card forever...

If Gono was victorious in his fights he would have made an appearance on the main card. Gono's stint in the UFC was his to lose pretty much.

His first two fights aside, they set him up to lose against Jon Fitch. That fight was out of nowhere. There was no reason he should have fought the number 2 guy in the division at the time after dropping a fight to Dan Hardy.

Not saying anything crazy like they were trying to get rid of him, just got a raw deal on that one.

Gono needs to be in Japan anyway. I'm glad he's returning to his home country.

He's just not himself without the showiness of the Japanese stage to fall back on.

sucks to see gono leave

2 losses by decisions one a razor split decision should give u the ax, when fighters like kyle bradley and ryan jensen are still in the ufc

i don't get it

gono should still have a contract in front of a host of fighters that are still being paid. unless they were giving him a massive paycheck, this is disappointing. i agree with the earlier post he should never have been fighting fitch that was a setup of sorts. war gono!
